About this listen
Major Calborne Rutherford returns to England on the trail of an assassin, only to find he's become Lord Ashendon, with the responsibility for vast estates and dependent relatives. Cal can command the toughest of men, but his wild half-sisters are quite another matter. They might just be his undoing.
When he discovers that Miss Emmaline Westwood, the girls' former teacher, guides them with ease, Cal offers her a marriage of convenience. But strong-minded and independent Emm is neither as compliant nor as proper as he expected, and Cal finds himself most inconveniently seduced by his convenient wife.
Emm knows they didn't marry for love, yet beneath her husband's austere facade, she catches glimpses of a man who takes her breath away. As pride, duty, and passion clash, will these two stubborn hearts find more than they ever dreamed of?

Great story
Once you get past the terrible voice acting, this story was so enjoyable and the very definition of a marriage of convenience book haha

good story but poor narration
The story was ruined by the stilted almost robotic narration which was a pity because Gracie novels deserve better

Wonderful Story; Dreadful Narration
Anne Gracie is an exceptionally good writer and this story is wonderful. However, it was completely ruined by the most inept and frankly bizarre narration. I was determined to finish the book because the story was so good but my goodness, it was painful. I cannot believe the publisher allowed this audiobook to be produced. If you can, get this book on kindle or in paperback…don’t subject yourself to this version.

Spoilt the story
Why is it so many narrators speak as if English is not their first labguage?

A plot of twists and humour, a good story
The story is fun, a typical quality romance from Gracie.
I read this story some years ago, and was rather disappointed in the readers voice.it seemed almost robotic, hesitant, the voice lacked flow where it was needed. Sounding more like the speaking clock than an actor.

Dreadful narration
I really like Anne Gracie books however I couldn't carry on past chapter 7 as the narration is so dreadful. The narrator sounds like she's performing it as part of Miss Mallard's elocution class. I even tried to speed it up from my usual 1.2 to 1.5 but that didn't work either.

I enjoyed it
I love Anne Gracie stories, this one is let down by the narrator.
I don’t know if I just got used to it or if she did actually improve by half way! But it got easier to listen to around half way for me.

good story ruined by dreadful narration - a travesty
I've always liked this story with the feisty women depicted. However, this production is ruined by the travesty that is the narration. It is the worst I've ever heard. The stilted intonation sounds like a computerised voice and occasionally appears to be recorded in a tin shed. The slight American twang and pronunciation is only a minor irritant compared to that. The producers should be hanging their heads in shame for releasing such a poor performance. I will be avoiding this narrator in future.
