About this listen

A queer holiday romance from the author of Delilah Green Doesn't Care - perfect for fans of Alexandria Bellefleur, Casey McQuiston and Rosie Danan.

It's been five years since Charlotte Donovan was ditched at the altar by her ex-fiancée, and she's doing more than okay. Sure, her single mother never checks in, but she has her strings ensemble, the Rosalind Quartet, and her life in New York is a dream come true. As the holidays draw near, her ensemble mate Sloane persuades Charlotte and the rest of the quartet to spend Christmas with her family in Colorado - it is much cozier and quieter than Manhattan, and it would guarantee more practice time for the quartet's upcoming tour. But when Charlotte arrives, she discovers that Sloane's sister Adele also brought a friend home - and that friend is none other than her ex, Brighton.

All Brighton Fairbrook wanted was to have the holliest, jolliest Christmas - and try to forget that her band kicked her out. But instead, she's stuck pretending like she and her ex are strangers - which proves to be difficult when Sloane and Adele's mom signs them all up for a series of Christmas dating events. Charlotte and Brighton are soon entrenched in horseback riding and cookie decorating, but Charlotte still won't talk to her. Brighton can hardly blame her after what she did.

After a few days, however, things start to slip through. Memories. Music. The way they used to play together - Brighton on guitar, Charlotte on her violin - and it all feels painfully familiar. But it's all in the past and nothing can melt the ice in their hearts . . . right?

Building On The World

I have listened to every book Ashley Herring Blake has on here, and one thing always stands out: They are over too quickly. I get excited, download, and by the end of a day I have done nothing with my day but listen to the story. And then I am left bereft until the next one comes out.

While this does not fully take place within Bright Falls per se, the name of Brighton's old band was initially mentioned in "Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail" as a group that plays at a party, so the link is still there. I always appreciate authors who continue in their own universe as it brings something new to the other books. I genuinely did like this story. Engaging characters, good side characters, lovely story, and for Audible listeners, the continued use of Kristen Dimercurio as the narrator is welcome. I could honestly listen to her for hours (and have) which may be why I return to Ashley's books time and again. Is it as good as the Bright Falls trilogy? Hard to say. I wouldn't say no as it was a different group and we had 3 books with that crowd. It's just new. And when the writing continues to be good, new is fine by me.

Good with some problems

Overall it was an an engaging and fun book, but with some problems. I didn’t really like the premise of the book, at points it made me think ”yeah maybe these people shouldn’t be in a relationship” which is kinda bad for a romance.
The ending also didn’t really land for me, when I listened to the last few chapters it just didn’t feel like a satisfying ending.
That sounds very negative but as I said before overall it was a fun book, and the narrator does an amzing job.

A good story!

The story is far from unpredictable but I loved the detailed introspection into each MC’s thoughts and feelings… it’s a slow burn so I absolutely adored it. The setting during December/Christmas holidays is well-depicted and quite immersive! Only a few personal dislikes on how many times the intimacy moments are scattered around the book, and on how they are described (a bit repetitive and at times not serving the plot much). But it’s personal taste! Solid 4 stars!

really brilliant story line of a group of friends who are musicians, really great characters all the way through and brilliant narration with a happy ending as well, may need tissues to be on hand 👍👍

Good fun - and perfect narration as always

Really enjoyed this one, quite a challenging set up in a way and I worried a bit for the characters’ mental health a few times but in the end it worked. Side characters and the backdrop all good fun too. Kristen’s narrative completely perfect as you would expect.
