About this listen
Online romance fraud is a problem across the globe. It causes financial and emotional devastation, yet many people refuse to take it seriously. This is the story of one middle-aged woman in a cardigan determined to understand this growing phenomenon.
No other woman has had so many online romances–from Keanu Reeves to Brad Pitt to Prince William–and Becky Holmes is a favorite among peacekeeping soldiers and oil rig workers who desperately need iTunes vouchers. By winding up scammers and investigating the truth behind their profiles, Becky shines a revealing, revolting and hilarious light on a very shady corner of the internet.
Featuring first-hand accounts of victims, examples of scripts used by fraudsters, a look into the psychology of fraud and of course plenty of Becky's hysterical interactions with scammers, this is a must-listen for anyone who needs a reminder that Keanu Reeves is NOT in love with them.

There are also plenty of stories of scams perpetrated on women included and information on how scams work in practice (I will be forever wary of anyone online asking me what my hobbies are!).
However, one thing that really irritated me was that despite recounting the excruciating details of several women’s experiences with scammers AND pointing out that many of those conned still mistakenly believe that the scammer had actual real feelings for them, the author goes on to state that despite being conned out of money by a previous partner a long time ago she still maintains that “he really did love me” (?!) .. Cue screeching brakes noise and big fat Scooby Doo “HUH?”
That aside it’s a fairly good listen and just wish the author had spelled out the code word that scammers use to self identify themselves to other scammers as that would be handy to use as a dating profile name.
Interesting

The first few chapters had me laughing out loud all the way through, but this then makes way for a thoughtful and well researched exploration of many aspects of the world of Romance fraud, narrated with compassion, humour and really accessible explanations.
I learned so much and was thoroughly entertained all the way through. I hope the author finds another topic to explore as I would love to read more by her.
Hilarious, heartbreaking, insightful and generally a brilliant read.
