About this listen

Now airing as the three-part documentary series The Other Mrs Jordan on ITVX.

From whirlwind romance to gaslighting campaign: this is truth far stranger than fiction.

When Mary met Will Jordan online, she was a single mother who’d given up trying to find Mr Right. And yet here he suddenly was: articulate and attractive, with a fascinating background. Soon they were in love, and when he proposed after a month it seemed recklessly romantic.

Caught up in a whirlwind, Mary accepted that Will’s work often took him away from home, out of contact. She was his rock, supporting him emotionally when a misunderstanding led to criminal charges, and even selling everything when blackmailers threatened to kidnap their children. Together, they took on the world.

And then one day the phone rang, and a woman introduced herself as ‘the other Mrs Jordan’…

In this raw account of deception on a grand scale, Mary Turner Thomson recounts what happened after she discovered every word he’d said, from the very first moment, was a lie. This is her painful, humiliating truth—but she tells it for one reason: she too was once a strong, independent woman who would have read all this and thought It could never happen to me…

Revised edition: Previously published as The Bigamist: the true story of a husband’s ultimate betrayal, this edition of The Bigamist includes editorial revisions.

This had me hooked from start to end. The authors emotional response to the memories is very evident at times and it's obvious that this was more than just a story. This is part of the healing, a way of moving forwards. I hope she has found the happiness and peace she deserves.

Excellent narration and what a story!

Really interesting listen. I still can’t quite fathom how these men get away with what they do but Mary does a good job of explaining the grooming and the ways in which she was sucked in and her approach to the other women was excellent given what she was going through.

Really enjoyed this

Loved this book from the first page. I was gripped and appalled by the story in equal measure. Highly recommend to anyone but especially people who might be in relationships with a psychopath.

What a story

Fascinating

This is one book that I struggled to put down. It's almost unbelievable in parts, and there is a tendency to feel very angry at the author for what seems like her absolute unwillingness to accept reality. But I've come to the conclusion that this man was a consummate professional in his chosen career...that of a serial liar, thief, bigamist and worse. None of us can judge this lady until we have walked in her shoes. I wish her well & thank her for her courage in telling her story. Highly recommended.

Shocking and informative

But what was unbelievable wasn't the bigamist himself (although he was dreadful), it was the gullibility of the author. An intelligent woman with a strong, loving family, she could not see the red flags that were being wafted in front of her eyes. If someone tells you they work for the CIA, they do not work for the CIA!! But to go on and give this man so much money, on demand, and have not one but two children with him, whilst on the verge of bankruptcy, is irresponsible in the extreme. I hate the man, but have little sympathy for his "wife".

Unbelievable

Narrared extremely well by the author, this true story of bigamy had me hooked from start to finish. We never really know what goes on behind closed doors do we.

Thoroughly enjoyed this cautionary tale.
