About this listen
Danny
I may be young, but I've done a hell of a lot of growing up in the past year. I watched my big brother deal with the challenges of loving someone, went through some medical stuff myself, and changed my career plans and my city. Gaynor Beach is smaller than where I was, but it has two attractions—my brother's big new house, where he's letting me live for now, and Rob Dunn. When I met Rob, just, damn. Like my brother, I wanted to help that sweet, stubborn guy and his cute kids get back on their feet. Maybe the rescue husky wasn't the right gesture, despite Rob’s connection to him, but a dog is love on four paws, and I plan to be there to help all the way.
Rob
I left my abusive husband with my two kids and the clothes on our backs. I'm grateful every day for the support the Gaynor Beach folks have given us…okay, I'm not sure I'm precisely grateful for the rambunctious young husky Danny Reynolds gave us, but Trouble makes my kids smile, and that's a big win in my eyes.
I'm determined to get back on my feet. I hate relying on other people to help us, but somehow it doesn't bother me as much when it comes from Danny. It's nice to have a real friend after all those isolated years, but do I want to keep him in the friend zone?
This slow-burn small-town gay romance novel is about fresh starts, accepting help, two sweet kids, and an adorable husky named Trouble.

This can be read as a standalone even though some of the side characters from the other books show up. I actually thought that I was losing my mind when I first started this cause I was sure I had already read it but that is because all the books overlap in time and this story played out in the background of Love Furever. When I finally realized I was very intrigued to hear this story from Rob and Danny's pov.
This was a very sweet story once again with a tragic backstory. Rob ran with his 2 very young children after his husband abused him. With the help of a social worker named Anthony he gets to a new town and starts over where hopefully his husband won't find him. He is staying in a house donated by a guy with a huge loveable family that includes Danny who offer to help out and he bonds the most with Danny.
The 2 Mcs were both so loveable and I felt so bad for Rob. I was drawn in from the first page and could not put this down til the end. They had great chemisty even though this was a slow burn due to Robs circumstances. It was so cute watching them become best friends and then more. It is low steam but all the sweetness definitely compensated for it. The low steam definitely fit the story line. It was also no angst which I was happy with as the book had enough other drama going on.
Once again the world building was fantastic. I think everyone will want to live in this town with this big sweet family. So many of the side characters stood out and made this story even more wonderful. The mama and sisters and Robs daughter were such a delight.
I loved the story alot and would definitely recommend it.
The narrator did a great job. He expressed the emotions really well and brought the story to life. He kept a good flow and I found his voice/accent pleasant to listen too. He gave all the characters, even the side characters, their own distinct voice that suited each of them perfectly, making it easy to follow the story and a pleasure to listen to.
Tragic but sweet

Danny is James's younger brother and he decides to donate a kidney to Colin, James's husband.
Rob is staying in James's and Colin's home.
I really enjoyed these two taking things slowly, mainly due to Rob's fears of being hurt again.
Danny was really sweet, kind and very mature.
The kids and animals were absolutely adorable.
Michael Ferraiuolo did an amazing job narrating and bringing these characters to life.

The pacing of the book was the strangest I have come across in a long time. The beginning was understandably slow, but there were minute descriptions of certain scenes that were unnecessary and rather irritating. Then there were huge leaps over rather important events such as Danny getting the results of his testing and the practical and psychological journey to having surgery, and Rob's court hearing with his husband. One single court hearing for which there was no preparation - and we only heard about in retrospect - in which the divorce was granted, and division of assets, domestic violence charges and termination of parental rights were all resolved.
I'm not even sure when Danny decided to switch from pre-med to psychology. I don't know if I tuned out or what, but I blinked and suddenly he had changed his course of study.
The progression of the relationship went from slow and careful, understandable in Rob's situation, to a breakneck race to get to the white picket fence. Every other page there was a relationship milestone. Going on a date very quickly turned into moving in, engagement and adoption. I thought that the epilogue would be months or even years down the line, with them more settled and ready to progress to the next stage of their relationship. But no, two weeks later and Rob's daughter was calling Danny "Dad", and they were waiting a "decorous" few months after Rob's divorce to get married.
It gives me the heeby-jeebies when a victim of domestic violence falls straight into another relationship in which they are again very dependent on their partner. Rob is by no means independent. He relies heavily on Danny and Danny's family and friends for employment, housing, childcare and emotional support. While we are supposed to feel that this time is different and romantic and whatever, the reality is that victims of abuse often find themselves in the same relationship dynamic over and over again. It's a real shame that Rob was not given the time to recover and become stronger on his own before plunging into another serious relationship.
This was my first book from this author, but I was aware that they had written black main characters a few times before. Perhaps my hopes were too high, but I did not enjoy the black "representation" in this book. It was very surface level, consisting mostly of a physical description, a mention of a past afro, and loud and overbearing mother and sisters (weary sigh). Racism was touched on briefly and unrealistically, and was used as a plot device rather than any kind of commentary or insight into the racism experienced by black men at american education institutions.
Disappointing

🎧📚🎧 With Michael Ferraiuolo at the mic, you know it will be a fabulous performance and a gem of a listen. He did an amazing job voicing these characters and delivering a perfect portrayal of each. I loved his take on the two leads, grasping every aspect of their personalities, including Rob’s insecurities, to his protective and caring side, and his Danny was just as fabulous and caring as well. He was great performing the roles of the secondary/side characters too, children included. His pacing and tone are just right for the story and he captures all the characters’ emotions and has you feeling them all. Michael Ferraiuolo is an entertaining storyteller and his captivating performance keeps you riveted to the story.

I think this story is best enjoyed in the fictional world. Forget reality and rationality, and just enjoy the kind and giving people of Gaynor Beach, a place where good guys win, and two people (plus their children and dog) find sweet love and HEA. To me, Gaynor Beach is how the world should be, and I relish it for that, and the break it gives me from harsh reality. Suspend your disbelief and enjoy.
Michael Ferraiuolo's narration is excellent, and the characters really shine through.
Sweet story, but a little unrealistic

Husky Love is definitely a sequel to Love Furever but they do standalone. I enjoyed the characters in Grey's Gaynor Beach universe, so I'm adding the rest of the books in this series to my tbr shelf.
There are some sensitive subjects Grey tackles: spousal abuse, health issues, adoption of both kids and pets. I must have read this one as a short story though because the storyline is 100% familiar. Gabbi Grey is very generous with their freebies though, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the basis for this novel.
The audio version of Husky Love is nicely performed by Michael Ferraiuolo.

* multi author series
* dogs
* kids
* spousal abuse (Rob's ex)
* organ donation (Danny)
* expands on Colin and James' story (Danny is James' brother)
The kids are (in the most part) well written and act like children.
The first half of the book with Rob escaping his abusive husband and settling in Gaynor Beach is a decent read. A perfect scenerio with all the help Rob could possibly want, generous town folks and lots of pro bono professionals. It also deals with Danny's decision to drop out of med school and donate part of his liver to his BiL. And sets up Rob and Danny developing a relationship as friends.
The second half of the book moved far too quickly for me. Best Friends, agreeing to move in together, one proper date (where they got engaged!), it all happened over a space of months (if you include that getting to know you as a friend period, weeks if you don't).
I thought Rob should live a little before getting married again (however lovely Danny is). That he probably needed more counselling before committing to a new relationship. That a traumatised little girl is going to be reluctant to call a new man Dad when she'd seen her original Daddy beat her Papa, and said Daddy had been (it's implied) mentally abusive to her.
Everything just happened so fast in the last third of the book. Maybe more time passing before the epilogue would have helped. But I think the real problem was the pacing (or lack of) of the romance.
I prefer a slow burn romance but whirlwind romances do happen and when done well these can be wonderful. I just felt that given his situation Rob should have been more cautious, taken more time. But that's a me thing, you might embrace the whirlwind.
The narrator does a decent job, although I occasionally struggled with whose pov I was in.
Sweet, low angst story

Though the audio narration by Michael Ferraiuolo kepte engaged in the story, I agree with other reviewers that the pacing of the book as a whole made the flow of the romantic elements of the plot a bit hard to follow & a bit too unbelievable.
Danny’s family is an absolutely dream though! And I loved how they all come together for each other through the book. This part of Rob’s journey towards healing & finding his footing was lovely.
