About this listen

Holly Gibney, one of Stephen King's most compelling and ingeniously resourceful characters, returns in this thrilling novel to uncover the gruesome truth behind multiple disappearances in a Midwestern town.

Bonnie Dahl is missing . . .

Holly Gibney of the Finders Keepers detective agency is meant to be on leave. But she finds it impossible to turn down Bonnie's mother's desperate request for help.

Then she discovers a single earring close to the location of Bonnie's abandoned bike.

Mere blocks from where Bonnie Dahl disappeared live Professors Rodney and Emily Harris. They are the picture of bourgeois respectability: semi-retired lifelong academics. But they are harbouring a savage secret in the basement of their book-lined home.

Now Holly must summon all her formidable talents if she is to uncover the truth behind multiple disappearances in her Midwestern town.

'I could never let Holly Gibney go. She was supposed to be a walk-on character in Mr Mercedes and she just kind of stole the book and stole my heart. Holly is all her.' STEPHEN KING

I have been a Stephen King fan for many many years and I was looking forward to listening to Holly.

I got used to the narrator and I ignored the Covid references but I just didn't find the story very exciting. I am usually captivated and don't want the story to end but I felt underwhelmed by this one.

Come on Stephen, write stories that thrill us like you used to.

Disappointing

It took a short time for the new narrator as I am so used to Will Patton. however, I think that we had Justine Lupe from the start then we would have no problem. She is just different but equally good. The story was, as always, wonderful. More Holly, please please please. Thanks Mr King.

Having followed Holly’s amazing journey of increasing self confidence and her eclectic, macabre adventures I’m really hoping there will be more about her in the future. This is one detective agency that needs to have more written about it. I’d love to know more about the origins of the supernatural entities she has gone up against even though they’re not in this particular story.

Hope Holly returns

Really enjoyed this addition to the mr Mercedes books. Was hooked from the start.
Well read and performed.

Another fantastic instalment

A bit slow to start but that's not unusual with Steven King. It's really great to find Holly is still growing as a individual. She comes across as someone who is just about hanging on but she's getting better. The way nobody suspects the murderers is believable and the ending is satisfying.

Good tale with creepy baddies

Unputdownable, great narrator and an excellent listen. Only criticism is that I kept thinking Holly was black (because of the film)

He’s done it again

Both an excellent story and well narrated, a great follow on from Mr Mercedes.

A really good listen.

Excellent story and well narrated

Very enjoyable story and I also enjoyed the narrator. Get some folks miss the previous narrator but I wouldn't mark the performance down because of that. It is just different. You may not enjoy this one if you are an anti-vax conspiracy theorist.

Great

Stephen King does it again! A fab book where Holly really comes into her own. She has come a long way since Mr Mercedes and it is great to see Mr. King has acknowledged this maturity in her character. I hope this is not the end of the road for Holly’s adventures. Dark and twisted as always. Highly recommend this book to anyone with a penchant for shocking storylines.
