About this listen

A forbidden age gap stand-alone from small-town romance author Brooke Montgomery about a daring horse trainer and her off-limits ex-boyfriend’s dad…

When we met at the rodeo, I only knew his first name.

Sparks ignited between us, and we spent an unforgettable night together.
It's not until the morning after when I recognize his last name do I realize who he is.

So I do what any rational woman would and make the walk of shame while he sleeps. It's not like I'll ever see him again or have to explain why I left.

But I'm proven wrong when he shows up at my family's ranch as the new farrier.

We can't be more than friends—for many reasons.
He's twice my age, workplace relationships are off-limits, and he moved back to rebuild a relationship with his son—the one I used to date.

Getting involved would ruin everything.

As we struggle between right and wrong, our connection deepens even though his traumatic past makes him doubt he deserves a second chance.

But it doesn't matter when everything's against us, including a rival who's out to get me and my ex who's determined to win me back.

After a riding trick goes wrong on his watch, he insists on taking care of me. Even though the odds are stacked against us, we keep the truth to ourselves.

But secrets don't stay hidden for long in a Southern small town.

Here With Me is book 1 in the Sugarland Creek series. Contains 20+ year age gap, ex-boyfriend's dad, workplace romance, opposites attract, and secret relationship vibes. Each book in this Southern, small town series is a stand-alone and ends in a happily ever after. Please listen to the content warning before the prologue.

The perfect forbidden, age-gap, small town romance

Here With Me is book one In the Sugarland Creek series and is the forbidden age-gap, small town romance of Noah and Fisher.
Noah is the only daughter belonging to the Hollis family who own Sugarland Ranch. Noah has always had a passion for horses and is one of the youngest and most respected horse trainers in her field. Noah and her ex-Jase broke up two years ago but have remained fast friends, she knows they were wrong for each other, and this becomes more apparent when she meets Fisher at an event. They hit it off and end up having one hot steamy night, only the morning after, Noah finds out Fisher’s last name and flees…she just had the best night of her life with her ex’s dad! Fast forward a few weeks and the new farrier starts his position at the ranch and it turns out to be none other than Fisher. Will Noah and Fisher be able to keep things platonic and professional or will they cross the line breaking the no fraternising policy?
Fisher is a man who has the weight of the world on his shoulders. Blaming himself for his daughter’s death years prior and losing his wife and son in the process causing him to breakdown and leave. Fisher has worked on himself and is making his way back to Sugarland Creek to make amends with his son Jase. Fisher, former bull rider turned farrier has bagged himself a job at Sugarland Ranch, however, Fisher’s chance at building a relationship with his son doesn’t go as planned when he unknowingly sleeps with his ex-girlfriend who also turns out to be the only daughter of his new boss and is almost twenty years his junior. Fisher does everything in his power to keep things professional, but he’s drawn to Noah like a magnet, and they begin dating in secret. But when a rival horse trainer sets about ruining her business and Noah gets injured, Fisher steps up and cares for her, raising suspicions of Jase and the Hollis family. Will fisher be able to keep the girl, his son, and his job when news of their relationship breaks?
The fabulously talented Maxine Mitchell and Tor Thom bring Noah and Fisher to life, and holy Mary mother of God, they blew me away!
Ms Mitchell’s performance as besotted horse trainer Noah was magnificent. Maxine showcased Noah’s passion for her career and her forbidden relationship, plus her strong family values and her need to help those around her perfectly. Also, Ms Mitchell’s male voice is the best in the business…outstanding!
Mr Thom’s portrayal of former bull rider turned farrier, who is back to make amends with his son but ends up falling for his son’s off limits ex-girlfriend who also happens to be his boss’s daughter was phenomenal! Tor perfectly conveyed Fisher’s warring emotions, a man who was dealing with past trauma and wanted to keep everyone happy even if it meant sacrificing his own happiness in the process. I was captivated form start to finish!
Overall, I loved this audiobook. Brooke Montgomery is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. Brooke has an amazing gift; her world building and character development abilities are first class!
If you love a good forbidden age-gap, small town romance that is filled with strong family bonds, a whole lot of fun, ranch life, sibling banter, plenty of hot steamy scenes and a dash of suspense then this is one book you’ll want to devour.

This was such an emotional story!

This was such an emotional story! I love Noah, she is such a strong and beautiful person, she is smart, caring, and full of energy. She has a wonderful family, and an amazing job.
Fisher is a broken soul, who is trying to heal from his past tr@um@ and move forward with his life, he never expected Noah and the chemistry they share.
This was intense, full of secrets, mysteries, heartbreak, and healing. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Sugarland Creek.

Angsty, Emotional, & Entertaining!

Here With Me had me laughing, crying, and everything in between. Fisher is a traumatized and damaged man who has been through so much in his 44 years. He is far from perfect and still working through his issues; I love how the author presented him as flawed and wanting to heal, still struggling both mentally and emotionally with the highly charged events of his past. Given all that we find out about him as the story progresses, I connected with him more deeply—he is relatable in a down to the nitty gritty, this is me, way. I cried for him and his trauma on more than one occasion, and I was so elated to see him open up and become vulnerable with both Noah and his son Jase. Noah is a fascinating female main character. I’ve met a lot of real life 22 year old women just like her—confident and cocky, self-assured and brazen, not afraid to be who they are. I can totally see why Fisher would be attracted to her—someone so vibrant and completely different from his past relationships. The insta-lust between these two is dynamic, setting the tone for what we are in for in this story. As things progress, the plot twists and turns in some unexpected and highly entertaining ways. The angst between these two around their secret parallels their sexual tension and drives much of the storyline, though the subplots also provide action, drama, and fascinating moments, dropping hints which I assume are for future books in the series. I LOVE grandma Grace and her intuitiveness, bold persona, and compassion. The antics of Noah’s brothers are funny as all get out and bring the laughter to break up the intense moments. Jase’s behavior is just as fascinating—a confused and hurting young man who seems to be floundering without any real role models. The dynamic between Fisher and Jase is tense, and I would have loved to see that explores a bit more. Most of the Taylor Swift references went right over my head, as I don’t listen to mainstream music, nor do I follow that stuff in the media, so it was interesting to hear so many references to her—but my son assures me she is one of the icons of the current teenage era, so I guess it makes sense the teens in this book would be obsessed with her.

The narrators of this audiobook are two of my favorites, and they did a lovely job of propelling listeners through the story with their ability to navigate all the southern twang while keeping the characters’ personalities on point. Their voices are soothing and easy to listen to. I only listened to the audiobook (I did not read it), as I love audiobooks, and I enjoyed hearing the narrators’ speak in twang for the conversations but in normal tones when there was not speaking going on. I think that worked really well from a listener’s perspective.
