About this listen
How do you define yourself when others have already decided who you are?
Six years ago, when Camden Daniels came back from war without his younger brother, no one in the small town of Alba, Colorado, would forgive him - especially his father. He left, swearing never to return.
But a desperate message from his father brings it all back. The betrayal. The pain. And the need to go home again.
But home is where the one person he still loves is waiting. Willow. The one woman he can never have. Because there are secrets buried in Alba that are best left in the dark.
If only he could tell his heart to stay locked away when she whispers she's always loved him, and always will...
Contains mature themes.

He’s the towns enemy, the one who was reckless, and the one they believe got his brother killed. They all hate him, apart from Willow. She always saw the good in Cam, ever since they were children. But now they’re grown up, but the feelings they once shared threaten to resurface.
I really enjoyed this story. We got to see so many emotions from grief of a lost one but also grief for someone that is unwell and sadly losing themself. I really liked the small town aspect of everyone knowing everyone.
I loved Willow, I loved that she stood up for what she believed in and didn’t back down when others told her to. That could have been because of Cam. He was such a rock and an empowering character. He literally didn’t care about what others thought and he proved to those who doubted him the type of man he was. I felt sorry for him to go through everything he did and still come out stronger.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story and once again I’m so happy to read Rebecca’s books and see how well of an author she really is!

I liked the relationship between Cam and Willow. Loved that they talked about thinks and there were no unnecessarily misunderstandings. The main characters were great and there are some sweet side characters. There was also a little bit of spice (1/5 maybe).
The part of the story with Cam's dad having alzheimer and what the family had to go through touched me.
But I couldn't bring myself to care about the whole historical society story and the gossip in the town. Although I think it's very well discribed how gossip, status and dynamics work in small towns, I had a hard time keeping my attention on the book during the council meetings, elections and so on.
The ending wasn't what I expected, but that's expected from Rebecca Yarros, if you know what I mean. 😂
The narrators are amazing!
