About this listen

In Gold Mine, an exciting adventure from Wilbur Smith, ambitious and hard-living mining expert Rod Ironsides knows that the general managership of the Sonder Ditch gold mine is the chance of a lifetime. But the price of unquestioning obedience to the coldly obsessive genius of Dr Manfred Steyner proves impossible to pay. Both men are but unwitting tools of powerful people - for whom the control of a gold mine is only part of a dangerous plan which includes the destruction of the very mine itself....

As always, Wilbur Smith brings his characters to life and builds momentum in the story superbly. His story telling is excellent and keeps the reader enthralled right to them very end

11 years ago is when I started listening to wilbur smith I first listened to gold mine as abridged version so it was really good to listen to the unabridged version. An this book was the 2nd wilbur smith book I listened too. The first was eye of the tiger and now iv listened to them all of them now.

Now in fairness, I havent reached the end of the book yet (and not sure I will) but I am a good 80% in and nothing has actually happened beyond some mine operations and a couple of accidents which seem to be minor blips in an otherwise relentless story of mediocrity about a few people who work at a gold mine in south africa.

And on the south africa front, I'm not sure an English narrator was an ideal choice, given the accents were, well, as bad as Letheal Weapon 4's to be honest!

Nothing actually happens
