About this listen

From top to bottom—a shocking and hilarious journey through the legal profession unlike anything seen before.

Straight from the bowels of back street police stations, locked psychiatric wards and the criminal courts, these are the brazen tales of a bare-knuckle barrister.

“For those who think that all barristers are high flyers blessed with fabulous incomes and sophisticated lives, this book will decisively re-inform you. It will dispel any myth that those we trust to steer the ship are any less maladjusted than the clients they represent.

Unapologetically rude and irreverent, welcome to the real world of criminal barristers; an unruly place where nudity, misappropriation of sex toys and dirty protests are not just for the accused, and where judges’ discomfort brings widespread joy.”

Not that hilarious and not that shocking. Must be better value for my monthly credit on here somewhere?

Underwhelming

I enjoyed this book immensely. It kept me engaged the whole way through and there were some stories that made me laugh right out loud. It does, however, reinforce my prejudiced view that obtaining justice in this country depends on a) the intelligence (or lack of it!) of the members of the jury and b) how good an actor your appointed barrister is. Moral: don't do crime or at least don't get caught!

Frighteningly Funny!

As I have been to court as an observer and a witness as well as having some credible accounts of what goes on in some courts I find that there are commonalities between those experiences and some accounts in the book.I found the book very entertaining.

Scary lest some of it be true.

Entertaining enough and narrated brilliantly. An easy listen but nothing really to at riveting. Worth it though and great to relax to. A good insight

An easy listen

An penetrating and insightful glimpse under the skirts of the iniquities of the justice system.

A great read from an author who has inside knowledge…

What is a ‘Clurk”? You definitely need use earphones unless you want answer a lot of awkward questions from your Grandchildren…

Entertaining, if somewhat puerile

Not quite what I was expecting but interesting nonetheless. Gives an honest insight into the workings of solicitors and barristers and also some of the defendants they represent, as well as British judicial system

Interesting

A realistic account of life at the criminal bar but there was a real danger incongruity between the story and who they had chosen to read the story. The story was the life of a womanising, hard drinking criminal hack type, yet the person chosen to read it was not the author but someone who sounded like a children’s presenter. It just felt a little odd and took away from the story.

Good storey marred by odd choice of narrator

Self-deprecating humour at which barristers excel and keen observations of human foibles. Listened to it several times. Having clerked in chambers I know he’s telling the bare knuckled truth. LOL in places.

Perfectly presented and highly entertaining

Well written and narrated, informative and at times hilarious. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the justice system-or lack of-or just for fun

Excellent
