About this listen

Golden sunlight bathes the rugged cliffs casting long shadows across Porthcurno’s sandy beach. Within a cove, lying on a blanket, are two bodies. Their limbs are twisted at unnatural angles, vacant eyes staring blankly at the sky. Beside them is an empty Prosecco bottle and a note with one chilling word written in black ink: Sorry.

As the sun rises over a picturesque Cornish beach, Detective Lauren Pengelly makes a grim discovery while walking her border collies. A newly engaged couple lie dead in the sand. At first glance, it appears to be a tragic double suicide. But something doesn’t add up.

The victims—popular university students Jasmine and Finley—seemed to have it all. But as Lauren digs deeper, she and her partner Matt Price unravel a complex web of secrets and lies. Finley’s gambling addiction was threatening to ruin everything, and Jasmine had an unwanted admirer. With a double murder to solve and suspects mounting, Lauren and Matt must navigate the close-knit community to find the answers.

An empty ring box and traces of silk fibres found at the crime scene could be vital clues to cracking the case but when another life is on the line, have Lauren and Matt run out of time to catch the killer?

A completely gripping mystery that will have you up listening late into the night. Death at Porthcurno Cove will have fans of LJ Ross, Ann Cleeves and Joy Ellis hooked.

The story was good although I guessed who’d done it early on but the stilted, formal dialogue spoilt it. I don’t know if this was down to the narrator or the author. The conversation didn’t sound natural between the characters.

A Good Story Spoilt by the Dialogue.

I love these characters and how cleverly they are padded out to become integral to the storyline and their peers. The narrator as always is brilliant. How she remembers all the characters and jumps between them is just beyond me.
More of the same please I’ll be in the queue

A hit for me

Good easy read - the story line flowed through out the book and at times was fast paced

Characters were believable - The story line was a typical murder investigation with a twist at the end

I love this series, and the ongoing development of the main characters. This book was another cracking installment, with the excellent writing brought to life by Clare Corbett's amazing narration. Her range of accents and ability to voice so many different characters never fails to impress me.
Sally Rigby always makes you feel the anguish of those impacted by the deaths of their loved ones, and the turmoil felt by the investigating officers, with her skillful writing.
The end of this book also sets up the next book in the series, which I look forward to listening to in the future.

Another cracking installment in an excellent series ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The relationships between the characters are built as the the series goes on which make them more real.

Corniche crime thiller

I usually love Sally Rigby's books but this one starts all gung-ho only to turn into a damp squib.
I love the relationships between the team, and it's great to see how Matt is making Lauren a better leader. Ellie and Billy's love affair is blooming, too, which is all very quaint. But where have the gut-wrenching storylines gone?
Please don't turn into Miss Marple or Vera, Sally.

Definitely not your best. But, as ever, brilliantly narrated by Clare Corbett.

2.5/5

Probably the weakest storyline so far.

I don’t usually review books and had really been looking forward to listening to this one having listened to all of the others in this series and enjoyed them. However, I was a bit underwhelmed by this story which I found uneven in pace and with what I felt were some evidential gaps. Maybe I missed them. Hopefully a bridge to the next episode-it certainly had that feeling for me. Sorry.
