About this listen

A CHILLING NORFOLK BROADS CRIME THRILLER!

A haunted crypt, a bullied boy, and an artist’s will: a benevolent gesture or a satanic curse?

When the body of a local artist is found mutilated inside a five-pointed star, DCI Tanner’s attention turns to the disciples of a Satanic cult. But when the man's body is discovered to be the cult’s leader, Tanner's interest is soon drawn to his will, and the five beneficiaries who’ve been named in it.

Set within the mysterious beauty of the Norfolk Broads, this fast-paced British detective series is a dark cozy Norfolk murder mystery with a slice of humour and a touch of romance, one that will have you guessing until the very end, when the last shocking twist is finally revealed.

The Bastwick Testament is a totally addictive gripping crime thriller, the twelth in a chilling series of serial killer books, ones which will rapidly convert followers of L J Ross, Faith Martin, Joy Ellis, Damien Boyd, J M Dalgliesh, and Elly Griffiths into David Blake devotees.

Although Peter Wicks' narration was good his characterisation was obviously different to that of JK. I have listened to the whole series of books and got to know the characters, having a different voice to them was like replacing all the characters in your favourite TV soap opera with different actors.
Nevertheless it was an excellent story with an interesting ending.
If there are any more DCI Tanner books, can we have Johnathan Keeble back please.

Great twist, interesting story. but why change the narrator.

Sadly found this very hard to get into. Having listened to the Tanner series from the start the characters personalities were well established & each book was like revisiting old friends. While I understand it’s not always possible to have the same narrator maybe trying to stay close to the original presentation would have worked better.

Like starting over

I didn’t enjoy the new narration and just couldn’t get into the book at all, it was like. Starting a new series. Very disappointed with the book

New narrator, gave totally different feel to all the characters, please bring Jonathan Keeble back

I have listened to the entire series and preordered it before realising that it wasnt being narrated by Jonathan Keeble, who I can just listen to for ages. It took me a while to get into the book as a result.

The story and characters are a bit far fetched and a bit frustrating it doesnt seem to have the link to police procedures that other books have but I just went with the flow.

Interesting with new narrator

I was at first so disappointed to hear that Johnathan Keeble would not be narrating this latest book, but I have to say that I have throughly enjoyed this latest story! I listened to it so quickly and just didn’t want to stop - after only a few chapters I was totally used to Peter Wicks’ fantastic narration and loved his portrayal of the regular characters. Following Johnathan Keeble must have been a difficult task but he has managed to find their voices brilliantly, respecting the previous books whilst also adding his own stamp on them. An absolutely fantastic listen with wonderful narration, a truly lovely surprise!

What a lovely surprise!

Hard to get used to new narrator but worth the effort. Great plot. Familiar characters.

Changes

Love the series and like many other reviews I don’t know why you would change narrator! Ruined it for me as JK was so good and his characterisation established in my mind! Also Peter Wicks seems to make Tanner and Vikki more of a joke couple - I get Tanner is a bit of a morbid character but it was not believable and coupled with the voices. Not great!

Shame about new narrator! Spoilt for me

Missed Jonathan Keeble narrating. It was a good narration but I found it hard relating to the characters with a new narrator.

I enjoyed the story but missed Jonathan Keeble doing the narration which kinda spoiled it for me 😕

A good series

It was a good reading performance and I am sorry for saying so but I missed Jonathan Keeble. It just wasn't the same and I know found somehow disturbing the sarcasm in the dialogs whereas I liked it before. Not sure I want to listen to the next book. Sorry, no offence ment. The reading was good. Only that Tanner in my head has Keebel's voice.

Nice twist but missing Jonathan Keeble
