About this listen
Commissar Ciaphas Cain is a renowned and revered hero of the Imperium, a man who has faced and survived some of the vilest creatures the universe can throw at him. But when he is sent to a river-world, he must deal with a dangerous enemy, an enemy whose true identity remains unknown. As his vessel traverses the straits of the planet, Cain must uncover the face of this new foe so that he can understand and escape it. Caught in the enemy crossfire, the commissar has no place to run and his nerve will be tested to the very limits.

Short but sweet
I will admit that, while familiar with the universe if Warhammer 40K, this was my first direct encounter with these specific characters. That is something that I fully intend to rectify as soon as possible.

A fairly decent Cain story
While the prospect of an audio drama is enticing, having previously listened to other Ciaphas Cain books with Stephen Perring’s specific cadence for Cain and Jurgen and Penelope Rawlins, it’s quite odd to listen to Toby Longworth playing Cain after hearing him in The Last Ditch. Wish there was a bit more of Jurgen and itching palms in this story as well, but overall everything is a decent performance and the sound effects are mostly good flavouring. The Chainsword sounds did cut into the narration a bit. Overall though, this is decent. But the other Cain books prove to be far better.
I would recommend though that if there is another Cain audiobook, they go with Stephen Perring for Narration along with the background sound effects and slight music that this drama had.

Fun but very short
I understand it’s an audio drama, so this is on me in part, but it’s quite a lot to pay for so little content.
Voice acting is great, the story is great, but it’s all over so quickly.
More like an intro to one of the great Cain novels - I would definitely recommend them first!

so-so
it's not a bad little story. But I would have liked it better if they had put a couple of these small stories together.
But not bad for the price. But I would have hated to pay the full price for them, thank 🙏 for members offers

Great fun, ss any take of Cain Co....
BUT... Damnably short. I realise it's an audio drama, with actors and sound effects and production issues, beyond someone sitting in a studio reading the words.... But GW..... This one was more like an intro than a full story. I enjoyed it nonetheless.... But when I realised it was about to end..... I had to check my watch to make sure I hadn't slept through part of it!

desperately need more in this series
great narration and sound, a fun story, short and sweet perfect for a long drive to work but I'd much prefer a collection of these put together as one

Shorter story for some extra sound effects
Ciaphus Cain stories are normally good, but this particular story seemed to be the opening for something bigger. I wasn't expecting only an hour for my credit.
