About this listen

A Baggit and Clodde Novel

A ratling and an ogryn aren't the best-matched pair, but in the crime-ridden heart of Varangantua, anything goes—at least, when there's a big score to be had.

Listen to it because

This is first full-length novel featuring the characters Baggit and Clodde from the audio drama Dredge Runners. Follow the duo as they hunt for a treasure that could answer all of their problems.

The story

Baggit is the fast-talking ratling with an eye for the big score. Clodde is the ogryn with a heart of gold and a head full of dreams. These abhuman deserters-turned-criminals operating in the city of Varangantua have crossed the wrong man for the last time—and now they’re on the run…

At least, that is, until Baggit learns of a score that could pay their debts and save their skins—the Wraithbone Phoenix, a fabled treasure rumoured to be hidden aboard a voidship recently scheduled for decommission. But Baggit and Clodde aren’t the only ones with eyes on the prize. When word gets out, every thief in the Dredge is going to be gunning for the Phoenix. Does Baggit have the cunning to find the treasure and get out alive, or will someone finally cash in the bounty on his head?

This was AMAZING!

I can't recommend this enough. It's a tour de force of what storytelling in the 40k universe can be. The voice performance is also top notch.

Good, charming story and excellent narration

This book had a solid, charming story, as well as a really great narrator/VA. I found it to be quite funny, despite the grim setting. There are some points where the pacing of the book is off; Suddenly going very slow or very fast, skipping over things or explaining the obvious in extreme detail, etc. Because of this and some other flaws, I can't give the story a 5/5. But this book is overall very solid, and easily worth the price.

Hobbits in Space!! Great story.

loved the story and characters in this book and the reader was excellent. my only criticism would be that the formatting is a bit weird so all the chapters are seamlessly blended so sometimes a new paragraph begins from a different character's perspective and it takes several confused seconds to realise there has been a change.

Absolutely superb in every way!

The narration and production quality is top tier, the story has twists and turns and really immerses you into the dirty streets of Varangantua. This has to be one of my favourite Warhammer Audiobooks ever

More Baggit and Clode please

Not as funny as the previous audio drama, which is a shame, but still a good story, well written with likable characters and an interesting story.
hope there is more in the future

One of the most well written and enjoyable 40K books so far

I’ve read a lot of 40K books by this point and this feels like one of the most well rounded reads thus far.

A lot of stories require a fair bit of background knowledge or are very specific with their perspectives often following 1 - 2 races but this is a great book for those who aren’t quite familiar with 40k and also offers enough details to really serve those seeking more depth to what it’s like being an Abb human in the imperium.

It’s also a classic hiest story and the character scratch whick(?) is honestly a character worth knowing for sure!

Also really fantastic voice acting and really brought the characters to life.

Overall a really good entry point and a great listen.

Give it a try

Harry Myers has a great range of voices that really sells the different characters and are perfect for the tone.
This isn't just a crime caper with a Warhammer 40k backdrop, it's very much a Warhammer 40k crime story fully immersed in the grim darkness, the Imperial propaganda and the ritualistic reverence of Him on Terra. The Dredge as a setting oozes with character and I am hoping that it and these characters are explored further.

Superb

I have read the book which is excellent and decided to listen on audible. It’s a superb story and the narration brought the characters alive. One of the best narrated books from the 40k universe. Recommended
