About this listen

Only the night before, she rejected him. Today, she is his intended wife.

Elizabeth Bennet proved he was no gentleman when she rejected his proposal. Darcy is now determined to flee Kent and hopefully not act like a lovelorn schoolboy the next he meets the lively Elizabeth. But when she loses her memory of his disastrous proposal and a bumbling relative believes them engaged, Darcy continues the charade with the plan to tell Elizabeth as soon as he can resolve on how to do so. And yet, she may be falling in love with him....

The very idea that she has accepted the cold, proud Darcy's proposal is absurd to Elizabeth. But why, oh why, did she? She can no longer remember what could have compelled her to accept him, but the changes she sees in him begin to touch her heart. He could be a true gentleman, after all. But when his deception is revealed, will it spell the end for them?

Darcy's Deception is a full-length sweet and clean romance novel that follows a stubborn, lovesick Darcy and a distrustful Elizabeth on their path to happily-ever-after.

I found this focussed too much on long passages about how people felt and what they thought, some of it repetitive. The actual plot was good though and with more dialogue and less introspection this could be a much better story.
The narrator was inconsistent and pronunciation odd at times, especially for names - Marry for Mary, Arne for Anne- but this too varied.

Too much agonising for me

Relationships should never be built on lies, yet when Darcy omits the truth and takes advantage of an unfortunate event, this story is born. I did not like Darcy at first. I have a hard time with lies, and deception. But as Lizzy started to fall for him, so did I. Darcy was really in love to go to those lengths to get the women he wanted. Well in love, or determined. But either way, I enjoyed following their story as they found love with each other. There were many obstacles to overcome, and I think they added to the story.

Alyssa Rogge has the perfect, British, accent for this story. Her accent added to the story a more realistic feel. Alyssa keeps all the characters separate and easy to follow. Her male voice was smooth and easy to know the difference. Overall, this was a good performance.

One little lie can change the whole story

I appreciate that as a British person I’m more attuned to the faults with the narrator’s pronunciations but what can be expected when the narrator is literally Irish and can’t pronounce a lot of words without reverting to Irish English. However this is not as frustrating as every single character talking in falsetto. It took from my enjoyment of the story. Surely there are narrators with Standard English and/or an RP accents. Stevie Zimmerman is the best female P&P narrator.

The frustration….❣️
