About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

From the world's best-selling thriller writer comes an international thriller going from the Bayou in Louisiana to Tokyo, Japan, as justice is served.

Cain Lemaire, a Secret Service agent from New Orleans, has the dream job he’s always wanted - until a single night results in a scandal that loses him his post.

Needing a new direction, Cain follows his sister to Japan and takes a job in Tokyo as head of security for the CEO of a top company. But what he thought was a simple security assignment unravels into a tangled web of corruption, greed and extortion.

Without the wealth of resources he had with the Secret Service, Cain will have to rely on his instincts and training as he races to find justice the way only a born and raised Cajun can.

Have always loved James Patterson books but have struggled with audiobook versions until this one. Narrator was great. Definitely recommend this one.

I usually enjoy JP, even when he collaborates, and I love stories in foreign lands, but this was painfully slow. The first 30 chapters are introducing the main character (a Secret Service agent that gets unfairly hung out to dry). Then another 25 chapters are spent introducing us to his new life/job in Japan (ok, if it weren’t for the already painfully long intro). And then it finally gets going, by which time I was seriously bored.

The narrator had a tricky job, lots of accents and Japanese words, but the southern drawl just added to the overall feeling of slowness. Clearly a good narrator, but the accents grated at times.

This book is well reviewed, so I guess this style works for some, but I was hoping for a faster pace and more plot.

Not his best... by a long shot!
