About this listen

Instead of magic hair, Ripley has magic blood.

Ripley Griever has been locked away for 21 years, afraid of what the world would do with her unpredictable magic. But when Fletcher Darkly breaches the walls of her tower to rescue her, she breaks her mother's loyalty to save him from her grips. Now, they must escape through treacherous terrain and malevolent creatures to reach the Kingdom of Elizy to fix her magic before the Cidris hunters capture her for her blood.

But as she journeys through the dangerous Ölden Lands, she begins to realize that Fletcher's help may come at a steeper price than she may be able to pay.

I really wanted to like this book, I like the author on tiktok and love a good fantasy series but honestly I couldn't bring myself to read anymore.
Every other sentence starts with 'i did this' 'i did that' ' reached for' 'I breathed in'. it was driving me insane.
the author really tries to emphasize the psychological impact of the video the lead has been repeatedly shown but somehow completely ignores the psychological impact of them being kidnapped, held hostage, isolated from the word, and essentially emotional and psychologically abused since they were four.
the final straw was when the author describes the love interest as having had a crush on the lead when he was 9y and she was 4y that lead to him being mean to her. I think I actually vomited when I read that. does the author not understand how developmentally

The book is very poor at world building. She is a magical fantasy creature, who teaches yoga. There are guns and sweaters and sneakers. I couldn’t see the world at all there was very little description. It sounded too modern and clashed with the mystical story. It was melodramatic and overly emotional as these paranormal fantasies often are - but I was annoyed as I thought i’d researched a half decent one.
