Author Grady Green is having the worst best day of his life.
Grady calls his wife as she’s driving home to share some exciting news. He hears Abby slam on the brakes, get out of the car, then nothing. When he eventually finds her car by a cliff edge, the headlights are on, the driver door is open, her phone is still there . . . but his wife has disappeared.
A year later, Grady is still overcome with grief and desperate to know what happened to Abby. He can’t sleep, and he can’t write, so he travels to a tiny Scottish island to try to get his life back on track. Then he sees the impossible: a woman who looks exactly like his missing wife.
Wives think their husbands will change, but they don’t.

This book is everything you want in a psychological thriller—dark, addictive, and full of suspense. Alice Feeney masterfully weaves a story packed with twists and turns, keeping you guessing until the very end. Just when I thought I had figured it out, another revelation turned everything upside down.
I couldn’t put it down—it’s the kind of book that keeps you up late, desperate to know what happens next. If you love unpredictable thrillers that keep you on edge, I highly recommend Beautiful Ugly!

However, I was delighted to discover that I loved the story as well. Wonderfully twisty! I would definitely recommend to others and will listen to again myself.

Too much time was spent on Grady therefore I felt that I was forced to like or feel sorry for him. This, no time was given to allow for any rapor with any of the female characters including Abbie, even though ultimately she was the victim. This is disappointing given the potential ‘hug’ a novel like this could have given females who have been victims of domestic violence.
Due to the sinister way the woman were all portrayed, when the truth emerged, none of the woman in the novel were given enough attention to build any sense of justice. If any of this was intentional by the author to portray the way woman are seen by men, it failed miserably by the lack of time spent on any character building.
Unfortunately, the potential for any sort of attempted ‘Atwood’ style writing was gone by the time the woman’s voices eventually emerged. This is partly due to the descriptive and repetitive writing.
Perhaps if someone finds this novel under the floorboards then it could reach its full potential too!
