About this listen

This multicast dramatisation of Arabian Nights: Volume 2 is an Audible Original reenvisioning of the iconic tale of Sinbad the Sailor - with a twist.

Adapted by Marty Ross, whose previous audio dramas include Romeo and Jude, Doctor Who, Treasure Island and Arabian Nights: Volume 1, listeners can expect to hear Sinbad the Sailor as they've never done before.

In volume 2 of Arabian Nights we return to Sultan Shahriyar’s palace, where Scheherezade is using her spellbinding storytelling abilities to save both her and her sister’s lives. As much as the Sultan wants to kill her, each night he is drawn in by her tales and spares them. Scheherezade weaves a long, winding and exciting tale about Sinbad the Sailor, a reckless young man who has inherited his father’s wealth and spends it foolishly. His debts eventually force him to leave Baghdad and find his way alone. However, his journey quickly takes a turn when he is led to sea by a mysterious woman dressed in blue, which begins his long and dramatic adventures at sea.

Starring Abraham Popoola, Adam Sina, Akin Gazi, Alyssa Kyria, Anoushka Rava, Aso Sherabayani, Bamshad Abedi-Amin, Daniel Naddafy, David Ahmad, Firdous Bamji, Gisele Payvandi, Hakan Silahsiz Hemi Yeroham, Ian Abeysekera Jonathan Morrison, Josh Zare Karim Kronfli, Mandana Jones Nezar Alderazi, Raghad Chaar Richard Reed, Sammy Broly, Tara Jaffar and Walles Hamonde.

A cracking sequel filled with immersive fantasy adventure- the story of Sinbad

The story begins by opening on an escape attempt by the story telling romantic Sceherazade and her younger wittier sister Dunyazad, before they are recaptured by a newer, more bloodthirsty high executioner, who kills the previous one to establish how brutal he is. Sceherazade is once again forced to buy herself and her sister more time by entertaining her sultan and husband Shariya to quell his bloodlust.
Enchanting him with her imagination and her vast knowledge of fairy tales and epics, Sceherazade weaves the tale of Sinbad, a Porter, who comes across a thief of his very own name sake, Sinbad the sailor. Sinbad the Sailor tells his namesake the story of how he came to be a thief and the notorious sailor that he is, from his encounter with Morjada, the ethereal spirit woman who serves as Sinbad’s illusive guide to his curse to forever roam the sea by a hideous shark-like djinn. Here he encounters a giant whale that is mistaken for an island, treacherous pirates, apemen, a one eyed giant, huge serpents, the terrifying elephant eating Roc, and his forging of a friendship and romance with Jyana, the elephant riding warrior woman.
This was a high quality, highly immersive and very enjoyable sequel to the first Arabian nights. Sinbad the sailor is the main focus of this story and the audiobook is divided up into 10 half an hour chapter segments, with the last two being roughly 40 minutes in length. While the focus of a singular story may not please the fans who enjoyed the variety of tales in the first installment, Sinbad’s variety of adventures will more than make up for it. Fans of mythology and dark, gory fantasy with a splash of sensual romance will very much enjoy this adaptation of the classical 1,001 nights of Sceherazade’s tales.
I should highlight that this is merely part 2 in a series of tales and the third part as far as I am aware is yet to be announced! Here’s hoping the third installment is not too delayed by the virus, as Sceherazade’s tales are definitely far from over.

Great fun

Told with great energy and enthusiasm, this telling of the stories of Sinbad the Sailor were very enjoyable. The quality of recording, dramatisation, background effects, music etc were all excellent and beautifully atmospheric. Including the framework of Scheherezade’s story-telling adds something, as it did with volume 1.

An ok sequel to Volume 1

First volume was great, however this one is missing something. Performance is great, but the story is not as good as in Volume 1. Volume 1 had some hilarious moments. I would highly recommend that volume 1 is not being skipped, if somebody is interested in Arabian Nights.

Fabulous

I enjoyed this volume as much as the first. Very captivating, loved the sound effects and found that it really grabbed the imagination. Had everything you expect from a great read, adventure, excitement, erotica and humour, would definitely listen too again

Overacted

I was not really a fan of this one, it seemed very over acted and it was difficult to tell the difference in who was grunting at what point
