A country girl named Polly is visiting city friends and comes to realize that this world is quite different than which she has left. Here people are judged according to their dress and manner of speech rather than for their honesty and hard work. Lovely narration too, another great book by Louisa May Alcott. I loved Polly’s kind and helpful character and the lessons the book tried to convey.

This was L.M. Alcott’s personal favourite among her own YA writing, according to one source. It is entirely consistent with her other writing - you will get the wholesome, charming story you expect. The reader, however, seems confused about American geography and Alcott’s very northern, New England origins. Giving these characters southern accents seems faintly insulting.
