About this listen

The season of Epiphany is in full swing at Gwenafwy Abbey when 10 new nuns from a convent in Los Angeles join the community of Anglican sisters in Wales. They bring energy, youthful enthusiasm, and more electronic equipment than Sister Agatha could have imagined.

The arrival of the new nuns brings something else to the Abbey - a bit of unexpected notoriety. Claire Pennoyer, an ambitious young reporter for the Church Times, interviews the new sisters for a feature story. Murder is the last thing on anyone's mind when Claire is found dead on the beach, her mobile phone in the sand. A tragic death, says Constable Barnes. A selfie gone bad. Meanwhile, Sister Agatha is unconvinced and puts on her detective's hat. Clues abound including the mysterious discovery of a missing key baked into the king's cake for the feast of Epiphany. Sister Agatha's tangled list of suspects includes even the abbey's residents - and the beloved archbishop of Wales. Worst of all are her worries about the abbey's beloved Shetland pony, Bartimaeus, who may be reaching the end of a noble life.

Time is running out as Sister Agatha uncovers a shocking reality. Will she reveal the truth hidden in an ancient document before it is too late?

This is so Americanised! We don’t call courgettes zucchinis, Main St, cell phone, sidewalk, I could go on but I won’t. This really spoils this lovely series. Better research???

Love these books but…..

Another great story with a super plot, starring Sister Agatha. This is the third book I’ve read and I’m growing very fond of the main characters. Sadly however, the narration was dreadful. I’ve listened to other books narrated by this lady and she does them no favours. Her syntax is woeful as is her skill at accents. Everyone sounded Swedish!! She has quite a monotonous voice and doesn’t seem to be able to pace herself very efficiently, so the narrative is a bit disjointed. All in all this makes it difficult at times to get the gist of what she’s saying. Honestly, go back to the original narrator- she was fabulous!

Marred by the poor narration

Pastoral sleuthing in beautiful Wales

voice different to the previous recordings. poor accents spoiled the experience. a series should keep continuity of reader.

reader not good

couldn't do an accent, really ruined it for me, everyone sounded 80 and weird welsh

Why change the original narrator???

I love this series and listened to the two previous stories which I really loved, I have even tried Welsh cakes now, which I can confirm are delicious.
The story is great, but the switch to this narrator was a terribly idea as the narrator ruined it. Completely read with a flat voice with no intonation, enthusiasm or soul. One of my adult sons heard it whilst I was listening to it and asked what I was listening to as it was dreadful.
I’ve had to stop listening to another series of books I was listening to as they switched to this narrator and if they carry on reading anymore from this series then I will have to give these a miss too as they kill the story and the enjoyment of listening to it.

Great story, dreadful narrator

I rarely abandon a book but I was tempted to do so with this book. The two previous books were enjoyable if very American in language and prone to factual howlers. This time the new narrator produced such a ponderous and deadpan delivery that the characters did not come alive. What little comedy was lost as a result. Proper Welsh and Irish accents were missing and the American ones mangled. As for the plot the villain was just unbelievable. I would suggest if there is to be another Sister Agatha then the author should research how the UK police force works and study a map of the British Isles. Balmoral is in Scotland!

A pity

This is the 3rd book in the series and I’ve loved them all. But this instalment has a new narrator and I’m afraid she is AWFUL. Her normal voice is dull and her Welsh, American and Irish accents are absolutely DIABOLICAL. Despite the great storyline I’m struggling to finish listening to this book because of the awful narrator. I won’t be downloading anymore with this narrator, which is a terrible shame as I love Sister Agatha!

Another great mystery but AWFUL narrator

Great story, but the accents were absolutely awful. almost cringy. the first two books were fab, and the accents ok, this one, way off the mark.

Great story. poor narration

Worst attempt at a Welsh accent ever spoils a good listen. Should have kept to the original reader

Final book in series ruined by laughably bad Welsh
