About this listen
Roman Reynolds needs a housekeeper and Ezra Powell is arguably the best. Despite their rocky start, Ezra is determined to set Roman’s house to rights without any distractions, if only the man would keep his shirt on and stop looking so damn handsome all the time.
An ex-NFL player and confirmed bachelor, Roman has been on a long losing streak when it comes to men. When his best friend (and notorious prankster) says he’s got someone who’s perfect for him, Roman knows it’s too good to be true. But then Ezra comes along with his shy smiles and thoughtful gestures and Roman’s hardened heart finally begins to thaw. Both men have been hurt before, both are a little shy when it comes to love, but when the opportunity to form a deep and lasting connection arises, will they be bold enough to take it?
A Soft Touch is a sweet and steamy 73K MM romance novel with low angst, lots of cuddles, and a bona fide happy ending. Content warning for ableism.

The story is engaging and low angst and the couple sweet and sincere. By the end you're delighted for the couple's HEA and it leaves you with that warm feeling in your chest.
Well worth the read!

I am so glad I was chosen to review this one. It was amazing. It sucked me in right from the start and I could not stop listening. Both men were hurt and reluctant to trust but had instant sparks and helped heal each other. They were both fantastic and well developed characters and they had amazing chemistry. This was super sugary sweet and really steamy. There's no angst, just love. Ezra is autistic and I thought that it was represented both accurately and sensitively. There's one scene with a rude person that may offend but is portrayed in a manner that it isn't tolerated. It was well written. There was great world building but the friend who played a big part in this one was someone I'm not sure I would want to read more about. Regardless I absolutely would recommend this to anyone who likes sugary sweet romance.
The narrator did a fantastic job. He had a really pleasant reading voice. He kept a good pace and he was age appropriate. He expressed the emotions amazingly and brought the story to life. He did different character voices for the characters and they suited the character really well. It was a wonderful listening experience. I hope this narrator does more m/m.
Such a sweet story and fantastic narration

- Age gap
- Opposites attract: Big, strong ex-NFL player x small, sweet, nerd college student
- Possessive MC
- Neurodivergent MC
- Slow burn
- Light kink and daddy play
So many good tropes in one book! I loved every part of this story and the slow burn in the first half of the book was perfect to bring the MCs stronger together.
Laura wrote Ezra with such care and understanding of his personality, he really felt real to me and I became very attached to him. I loved his thinking so much, it was straightforward and so intelligent, made me realize the world would be better if more people thought like that.
Roman was the perfect protective partner. Bigger, strong, possessive, and jealous, but so sweet to Ezra! He tried very hard to understand Ezra's needs and his way to see the world and provide only the best for him. It was amazing to read their dynamic.
What a great surprise it was to see how naughty Ezra was! I loved his sexy time plays and his lists.
Sweet and touching

Roman is a successful restauranteur and needs a housekeeper. Ezra needs a job and somewhere to live. Ezra is the best at what he does, and he does bring Roman's house to order. But Ezra is a little . . .different . . . in his approach to things and Roman takes time to get used to that.
What follows is a wonderful tale of two men, almost polar opposites, falling in love! And that's ALL that this book is!
Ezra is Autistic, and it shows right from the start. It takes Roman time to notice that, but once he does, Roman takes MORE time to work Ezra through whatever problem he has. Whether it's a strong reaction to some food stuff in the fridge (I will come back to this!) or some feelings Ezra needs to talk out.
I loved that Roman doesn't ever ridicule Ezra's reactions. He wants to understand Ezra's triggers, and help him through the fall out and figure out compromises and work-arounds. I loved that Ezra let him!
Roman had been hurt in the past, by ex-boyfriends who took advantage of his giving nature, but Roman was very quick to notice that Ezra was quite the opposite, and not wanting Roman to spend money on gifts.
And oh! The smexy times! Listening to Ezra process his biological reactions to Roman was amusing in places, but also emotional. Ezra doesn't do emotions very well and he struggled working his way through them. I loved that once Roman and Ezra decided that would do this, that Roman let Ezra set the pace and tempo of their relationship.
One particular chapter stands out, titled The Blue Cheese Incident. I have to be honest; I did laugh at Ezra's reaction to blue cheese in Roman's fridge, I really did. Because I would have had the same reaction, should I have come across blue cheese in my fridge, that wasn't sealed in a box! I might not quite have taken it to wrapping myself in the duvet and hiding away, but I felt for Ezra here! I loved how Roman dealt with it too.
I loved Roman, and Ezra!
It's a beautifully told love story, is all. No angst or drama and I loved it!
James C Jones narrates.
This is the first I've listened to of his work, and it won't be the last.
He gets over all of Ezra's thought processes and those feelings that he can't work through. He gets over all of the joy and delight that ezra finds in Roman's company. But equally, he gets over all of Roman's hesitation at jumping into a new relationship. All his need to look after Ezra, and to help him through the reactions to his triggers.
Jones' voices for all the characters are distinctive enough for my rubbish hearing to be able to differentiate between them well enough. His reading voice isn't as deep as some narrators, but I didn't find myself struggling at all.
The thing I love most about reviewing is finding new to me authors. AND new to me narrators, and this book encompasses both of those. And I loved it!
