About this listen

Simon Darcourt, an inventive killer with a sense of humour, is creating his own celebrity talent show, one that is generating more publicity than its contestants have ever had in their lives. The catch is that those lives won't be very long.

The police turn to Angelique de Xavia, a cop who has crossed his path before. However, the police are not the only people who want Darcourt. Now she's faced not only with tracking him down, but also with the task of ensuring she doesn't end up dead once she's served her purpose.

Scared and alone, Angelique knows she's got a snowball's chance of pulling this off, which is why she's going to need a little magic...

To fully appreciate this you need to have already read/listened to, the previous novels featuring Simon Darcourt.

Read Brookmyre's other novels first.

Gripping thriller on the subject of celebrity culture while putting the boot in on the media obsession with scaremongering terrorism. Highly entertaining

Witty biting cops and robbers satire

It was a bit of a challenge following the characters having not read the previous two books in the series. But the story comes together quickly and is continually inventive. Great ending tying up all the loose ends.

Great convoluted plot

One of Brookmyre's best - and that's saying something! Angelique de Xavier - a great heroine and a fun story.

Love this book!

Loved, a bringing together of both the previous stories. So enjoyable for start to finish with many Charlie Brooker style moments.

Brilliant

So often a sequel disappoints. This builds on the characters and has a truly inspired sense of humour, black but not too black, a bit off kilter but not twisted. A great plot that keeps the attention and characters you can relate to. Thoroughly recommended.

Brookmyre at his best

Full on Shock and Awe. Not normally my usual go to, however tried The Cliff House and loved it. Snowball, totally different, equally brilliant.

I would have given this book 5 stars if it wasn't for the first 45 minutes. I thought I had missed a huge chunk of the book out, I really couldn't get into it and very nearly gave up. My brother who recommended this author had said how good he was so I persevered - and was very glad I had! there are a lot of good plot twists and the characters are really well portrayed. Definately worth listening past the first 45 minutes! I will have to listen to it again to see why I didn't get it the first time.

get past the first 45 minutes!!
