About this listen

In the cut-throat game of court life, masters manipulate pawns—and you never know which one you are. One thing is certain: there's no space on the board for love.

A penniless noblewoman, Kat is on the verge of losing everything when she's offered a well-paid job that could be her salvation… or her ruin. Drawn into court's deadly intrigues, she's given a single task: spy on the powerful fae lord known as the Night Queen's Shadow.

Bastian Marwood is handsome, ruthless, and cunning, but Kat can't decide if he's a threat to her kingdom or just her heart. To uncover the truth, she must play a dangerous game of desire and deceit, pushing him to reveal his secrets while protecting her own. But Bastian's shadows have a hold on her—one she isn't sure she wants to escape.

Kat soon learns that at court, nothing is as it seems, and even the best-laid plans can be destroyed in an instant. As a pawn on the board, she can't afford to fall victim to love—only fight for survival.

A Kiss of Iron is the first book in a new series featuring court intrigue, a morally grey hero, and an unforgettable enemies-to-lovers romance. Perfect for fans of Gild and From Blood and Ash.

Enjoyed this book - the male narrator was awful though.

The story was very good. The MFC was a little annoying but thankfully had some growth, and I enjoyed the revelation at the end.

The female narrator Sarah did a great job and thankfully she read the whole book until the end.

The male narrator Liam did the epilogue and he was awful. He read like a news reader in tone with no natural smooth sounding sentences or emotion, but the most distracting bit was that his voice pauses every 10-20 seconds like he was reading a bullet list and not a story.

Ignoring the male narrator at the end - the rest was enjoyable and would recommend it.

engaging story. sorry but the male narrator was an odd choice

I really enjoyed the story, maybe a bit long in places but overall I enjoyed it and feel invested. I want to know what happens next, I also want to find out what happened to Kats sister, there is more than one story. I have to admit there were times I just wanted to slap Kat as she was being an idiot. I loved Bastian, well until POV switched to his and we got the male narrator. I am sorry but I burst out laughing it was such an odd and jarring switch he just didn't have the 'something' and the narration felt a little off, the pacing, the inflection and the intonation, everything.

Excellent story

Loved the story and characters. The female narration was good, but as a Brit, some of the pronunciation was a little jarring as she was obviously American putting on a British accent, but I still really enjoyed listening to her. Unfortunately I just listened to a preview of the second book and I think it’s unlistenable. The male narration is SO wooden and hard to listen to, and looking ahead at how many chapters he reads I don’t think I’ll be able to enjoy it. Such a shame

The male narrator was horrendous

The MMC is enjoyable, the FMC is a tad annoying, constantly going back and forth and it gets boring to "read". The side characters could have used a bit more depth. We could have used half the time Kat was thinking about rules and image on the interesting side characters.

The story was actually somewhat interesting, I think it would pick up even more in the second book, but I can not listen to it. The female narrator did a great job, no complaints. The male narrator on the other hand... my god he was terrible. He only narrated the epilogue, the very final piece of the book and I nearly couldn't finish it because of him. I certainly can't listen to the next book. The intonation is so horrible, it is hard to keep up whats happening and it also sounds like he recorded it one sentence at a time. WTH!?

Good book

I enjoyed the story but I did struggle with Kat. such a stubborn woman, there were things that didn't make sense around family being so important, but she didn't know her sister was alive etc.
She was very bothered about Bastian's history and not so bothered about not telling her own truths.
I agree about the male narrator his breathing is all wrong. But it was similar for the male narrator in Trial of the Sun Queen & he improved or I got used to him?!, so hopefully he will improve if he is going to talk more!
it's a free book, so would recommend. ☺️

Gripping

Story was great, gripped from the beginning.
Female narrator is great, male narrator sounds like a news reader, thankfully he only narrates the epilogue.

Narrator did a great job

Loved this story, it was nice how the story built and relationships built more than just the physical side. It felt believable.
