About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

November 1924. The Endeavour sets sail from Southampton carrying 2,000 passengers and crew on a week-long voyage to New York.

When an elderly gentleman is found dead at the foot of a staircase, ship's officer Timothy Birch is ready to declare it a tragic accident. But James Temple, a strong-minded Scotland Yard inspector, is certain there is more to this misfortune than meets the eye.

Birch agrees to investigate, and the trail quickly leads to the theft of a priceless painting. Its very existence is known only to its owner...and the dead man.

With just days remaining until they reach New York, and even Temple's purpose on board the Endeavour proving increasingly suspicious, Birch's search for the culprit is fraught with danger.

And all the while, the passengers continue to roam the ship with a killer in their midst....

I was really looking forward to this title but I’ve rarely experienced such a poor narration - such a shame

Disappointing

Have been equally as impressed with every book from Hindle so far. It is a perfect read for someone who wants something light but also with enough complexity to keep you stimulated. Really looking forward to his next release.

Loved how the scene was set onboard the ship and the story really kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who did it.

Was totally not prepared for what happened at the end!

Would 100% recommend this to anyone who loves a good mystery

I couldn’t stop listening

Definitely took a while to get into the book and characters. Needs a bit of attention to maintain understanding. With the effort

Slow burner - but excellent

An excellent clever plot with an unexpected twist at the end. Well narrated in a clear voice.

The final twist was most unexpected.

The plot here has something of the Agatha Christie about and, depending on your taste, you can take that any way you want but it’s an enjoyable read written with a light hand.

Enjoyable art related mystery.

I was so excited to read this book but goodness did I struggle to finish it. Bitter perseverance and grim determination got me to the last chapters which were actually mildly entertaining. I love Agatha Christie and will be sticking with the OG Royal Highness of the whodunnit in the future!

Struggled!

Good story but unfortunately marred by very dull narration. I wish I’d read the book myself and I may have enjoyed it more.

Boring narrator but good story

I think I’d really like this book but the narrator sounds so bored and uninterested it’s distracting me from the story? I can’t listen to finish the book - the narration deadens the story line….

I really wish I liked it?

I always feel it's unfair to review a book based on the inadequacies of the narrator but if you take my money you deserve nothing but the truth. And my truth is: I couldn't continue listening to this – actually I didn't even make it to the middle.
