Award winning author Sam Irvin is also a veteran director, producer and screenwriter for movies and television. After beginning his career as the assistant to Brian De Palma on "The Fury" and "Dressed to Kill", Irvin has directed over 50 movies, including "Elvira's Haunted Hills" starring Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. He also directed episodes of Comedy Central's "Strip Mall" (Julie Brown and Cindy Williams), as well as all three seasons of the queer horror TV series "Dante's Cove" (for which he also co-wrote the theme song, "Dying to be with You"). Irvin's other credits include co-executive producing Bill Condon's Academy Award-winning motion picture, "Gods and Monsters" (Sir Ian McKellen, Brendan Fraser, and Lynn Redgrave), and co-producing Greg Berlanti's "The Broken Heart's Club" (Timothy Olyphant, Dean Cain, and Zach Braff). While writing his first book, the acclaimed biography "Kay Thompson: From Funny Face to Eloise" (Simon & Schuster), Irvin served as a historical consultant for the Broadway spectacular "Liza's at the Palace," starring Liza Minnelli as Kay Thompson, which won the Tony Award for Best Theatrical Event; and produced the 3-CD compilation, "Think Pink! A Kay Thompson Party" (Sepia Records). He also appears in "Kay Thompson: Think Pink!" a 30-minute documentary included as an extra on Paramount Home Entertainment’s 2009 “Centennial Collection” 2-DVD special edition of "Funny Face." Since then, Irvin has authored 5 more books, including "Sam's Toilet Paper Caper!", "Orbgasm", "I Was a Teenage Monster Hunter!" (Rondo Award Winner: Writer of the Year), "The Epic Saga Behind Frankenstein: The True Story" (Rondo Award Winner: Writer of the Year), and "Captain Samouflage and the Frankensam Scam!" (Winner of 2 Rondo Awards: Best Graphic Novel and, for the book's cartoonist Dan Gallagher, Fan Artist of the Year). Irvin is the recipient of a Tod Slaughter Award for Lifetime Achievement in Horror; and the Queer Screams Film Festival Award for Career Achievement. Irvin resides in Los Angeles.
