Edward Westermann received his PhD from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is currently a Regents Professor of History and a Piper Professor of 2023 at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. He was a Fulbright Fellow at the Free University of Berlin, a German Academic Exchange Service fellow on three occasions, and he was selected as the J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Fellow at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC for the academic year 2018-2019. He has published six books and numerous articles and book chapters on topics dealing with military history, the Holocaust, and air power history. His most recent book, Drunk on Genocide: Alcohol and Mass Murder in Nazi Germany (Cornell University Press, 2021), received the 2023 Yad Vashem International Book Prize for Holocaust Research. His other books include Hitler's Ostkrieg and the Indian Wars: Comparing Genocide and Conquest (University of Oklahoma Press, 2016), Hitler’s Police Battalions: Enforcing Racial War in the East (Kansas, 2005), and two edited volumes Expeditionary Police Advising and Militarization: Building Security in a Fractured World (Helion, 2018) and Air Force Advising and Assistance: Developing Airpower in Client States (Helion, 2018).
