All Lina wanted was to be desired. How did she end up in a marriage with two children and a husband who wouldn’t touch her?

All Maggie wanted was to be understood. How did she end up in a relationship with her teacher and then in court, a hated pariah in her small town?

All Sloane wanted was to be admired. How did she end up a sexual object of men, including her husband, who liked to watch her have sex with other men and women?

This book made me want to go do the washing up just so I could listen more!
It is unlike anything else I’ve read, and I’m not exactly sure how to summarise why it appealed to me so much...all I can say is I recommend it!!
And I’ve already started looking out for other books by this author.

Highly compelling reading (or, listening)

This book was not really what I was expecting but became addictive. You are drawn into the lives of the 'three women' Lina, Sloane and Maggie as they provide first-hand accounts of their experience.
One is a lonely, disillusioned housewife who begins an affair with her high school sweetheart, one is a submissive who has sex with other men largely for her husband's gratification and, one is a seventeen-year-old high school student who enters into a relationship with her favorite teacher. I'm not sure how representative the three women are but I was shocked by Lina's introduction to sex, by Sloane's objectification by men (even those closest to her) and about Maggie's overall story and the impact on her wider family.
At first, I wondered why these women 'settled' for such poor relationships? As the book went on, I became less judgemental and could see that these were three women just living their lives in a society that often doesn't see them for what they are. I think the author has done a great job in bringing their experience to life and I hope that the women get some satisfaction in the interest their stories will generate.

An interesting insight

A sexy little number but very thought provoking at the same time. Made long car journeys something to look forward to!

Saucy and satisfying!

The three women's tales are described with such clarity and yet the language is simple and accessible. At times shocking, nevertheless there are moments of sensuality and sheer beauty. Taddeo is a skilled and sensitive story teller.

Beautiful stunning writing.

I love this book, it was drawing me in at every single moment it could and wouldn't let me go.

Hooked on every word

I could recognise parts of myself in all three women and appreciate such an in-depth discussion about a still rather taboo subject. Some of the reviews astound me! Imagine? A book about female sexuality containing sexual references?! It’s akin to complaining that the bible rambles on about god a bit too much. Seriously? What did these readers expect?

Relatable

This book is fantastically written and read but the way these three women are defined - through the prism of the minutiae of their sex lives and in relation to the toxic, entitled men they are with - is unbelievably depressing. Rather than screaming - “hell no” from the rooftops, the detached, journalistic writing style felt somewhat complicit with the subjugation. For me it was women, body, sex and relationship negative, a cautionary tale, although surely that wasn’t the author’s intention.

Feminism hasn’t helped at all…?

I listened to this amazing book in two days. Couldn’t put it down. It is addictive. The writing is incredible and so vivid. The stories of these three women are candid and overwhelming. A book that will stay with me for many years to come.

Captivating and incredibly painful

The premise of this book is very simple - three women's stories about love and sex. But the way that their accounts are written by Taddeo is simply beautiful; she has an easy, incredibly descriptive yet not overbearing way of describing things that the majority of people cannot do very well. I connected with each story as if I knew these women in real life. Incredibly moving and important for any woman to read.

Powerful & moving
