About this listen

A sexy stand-alone novel from New York Times and international best-selling author Elle Kennedy.

Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right - I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team.

And that’s who Jake Connelly is. Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel - I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.

I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.

For every fake date…he wants a real one.

Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.

That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.

Pretty much finished it all in one sitting!

I really enjoyed Brenna and Jake's story, Brenna's sassyness is the best! And OMG the Wesmie reference!!! 🤩🤩 Would have loved to see a bit more of Jake's perspective towards the end of the story...maybe there could be a bonus chapter eventually?

10/10

This was hands down my FAVOURITE Elle Kennedy book. The characters, the slow burn, the side stories. The F**KING NARRATORS performance oh my god. Everything was chef's kiss. Definitely worth listening to if you like hockey romance.

romance and humor

this is the second story in the briar U books. it concentrated on Briar and Jake's relationship. I love how the books intertwine and the teasing and humor amongst the characters. I have had real laugh out loud moments.
the narrators do and excellent job and I can't wait to listen to the next book

Loved it!!

This book was perfect! Couldn't stop listening to it and finished it in 1 day. Their chemistry is incredible and I love Brenna and Jake 🫶🏼 Had a hard time with the first book in the briar U serie because it was slow but this was 10/10! Amazing

Not perfect, but a comforting hug

A couple of things in The Risk kinda bothered me. Hazel for one thing. Like...did she apologise for her behaviour no. Was it forgotten about, mostly yeah. Also Jake definitely didn't grovel enough or see that Hazel played him like a PS2. That being said, I kinda love Brenna and I was invested in the banter and the rivals to lovers situation between Jake and Brenna. The chemistry both in and out of bed was pretty solid but the side characters didn't hit for me.

Really didn’t do it for me

This was really missing something. Didn’t really feel the relationship and the whole book seemed a bit emotionally immature. Jake’s ego and selfishness were just really annoying. There’s something quite boring about two good looking universally adored people getting together. And I know it’s college life but the whole book was just obsessed with getting laid which was dull too. Perhaps I’ve just matured past these books? I used to love Elle Kennedy. Still love Sarina Bowen books though so maybe it’s just this particular series that’s a dud for me.

Blah...

After meeting Brenna in book 1 of this series I was looking forward to this book as I really enjoyed her snarky confidence and sarcastic personality in Summers book and expected more of the same... unfortunately this book gave me nothing, it was bland.

Neither Brenna or Jake were particularly interesting or layered as characters and considering this is touted as a fake dating, enemies to lovers there was no enemy-ing to be seen. I personally didn't feel the chemistry between them and it took FAR too long to get to Brenna opening up about her past, the story just dragged, and the fake dating aspect was completely missing. The drama between Brenna and her dad, Hollis & Rupi's storyline and the Hazel thing added nothing and felt like an attempt to try and shoehorn some drama into the plot. This just didn't work for me, nothing about this story was memorable and I'm left feeling indifferent about it. 🤷‍♀️
