About this listen

GOODREADS AUTHOR OF THE YEAR NOMINEE, 2012

Too hot to handle....

Tabitha Allen grew up in the thick of Chaos—the Chaos Motorcycle Club, that is. Her father is Chaos' leader, and the club has always had her back. But one rider was different from the start. When Tabby was running wild, Shy Cage was there. When tragedy tore her life apart, he helped her piece it back together. And now, Tabby's thinking about much more than friendship....

Tabby is everything Shy's ever wanted, but everything he thinks he can't have. She's beautiful, smart, and as his friend's daughter, untouchable. Shy never expected more than friendship, so when Tabby indicates she wants more—much more—he feels like the luckiest man alive. But even lucky men can crash and burn....

A re-listen favourite

I re-read Motorcycle Man before starting this book, but it isn't necessary, the chaos series stands alone. However, the understanding of wider family connections from reading motorcycle man is useful and I think potentially brings further enjoyment of the characters.

This KA book felt a little different in that it had an emotional start that lasted into the first 25% of the book. The emotions were intense and I truly felt the tragedy. I really enjoyed the passing of time in this book, it allowed Tabby time to grow from a petulant, rebellious 16 year old to a young woman messing up her life to further maturity. I found Shy to be a great hero, I felt magnetised to his persona! I loved that Shy, without coercion, instinctively decided he wanted a more even partnership with Tabby than was traditional between Chaos men and their women. There is a utterly engaging story threaded throughout this book and it is definitely one of my favourite KA reads.

This promises to be a great series

First book of I hope will be many. Love the characters and the storyline. I started listening to to the 1001 dark nights chaos books first not realising that these books came first but now find that i needed to start at the beginning. Hate giving away titbits of what’s going on and just want you to find out for yourself. If you’re into biker books, then this is for you. Happy reading ladies.

I really, really disliked this meek girl

I started of on the wrong foot. I believed a woman grown up in a biker club would be strong and had great sex. But she is quite delusional when talking about herself or her life. She talks a lot about being a member of Chaos and having her strong stepmother as a role model. In the meantime nobody treats her as if she is able to make her own decisions. They don't do what she asks. They decide things she does not want. And while she is very proud about being angry, it never has any effect.
The sex was Ridiculous with a big R. This is 21th century? She is very passive, gets moved around and pulled into position, takes no initiative and does what Shai tells her. And then she calls it "wild monkey sex"??? Pathetic.
The narrator was mostly alright but all males had the same emotionless voice. It made dialogs unable to follow.
At last, the writing. The vocabulary was limited and a lot of phrases or words were repeated in the same paragraph. For example : "He had brown hair, brown eyes and a smooth, low voice. He took my hand and said: 'Hello, I am X' with his smooth, low voice." On top of that, the speech mainly consists of unnatural and endless monologs.

I really wanted to listen to the whole thing but..

I enjoy Kristen Ashley's books and after the Rock Chick series have been looking for more on audible. Unfortunately, unlike the RC series, most are read badly and I mean AWFUL. I suspect audible knows this and this is why the sample of this book starts about a minute in to the first chapter, just enough to avoid hearing the reader attempt a male voice - which is a raspy, flat mess. The reader does female voices well, but overall the narration is pretty terrible and though I was enjoying the story, I just could continue.
