Summary

It’s not just a simple matter of being bitten—being a vampyre is hidden in your DNA. For 16-year-old Zoey Redbird, life turns on its head when her change triggers and she’s sent to the House of Night, a boarding school for fledgling vampyres.

Getting schooled at House of Night is essential not only for learning the dark arts but for a novice vampyre’s very survival—get too far away from an adult and your fledgling life is over. But for Zoey Redbird, everything is even more complicated than it first seems: chosen and marked by the vampyre goddess Nyx, she is under more scrutiny and surrounded by more upheaval than the other vampyre newbies right from the beginning. Along with the normal teenage vampyre hardships, Zoey has to identify enemies among her new friends, defeat evil, and earn a new sapphire tattoo with each new accomplishment. As the series continues, Zoey falls deeper and deeper into a life of complications, both magical and common to ordinary mortal adolescents.

Three talented narrators bring the life of Zoey Redbird to full color. Caitlin Davies, Jenna Lamia, and Cassandra Morris are all award winners or nominees. Their clear and professional performances pour the stories of the night into your ears, with shuddering suspense filling each audiobook to the brim.

With more than a dozen highly acclaimed books to their names, P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast make for a dynamic mother-daughter writing and editing duo. While P. C. wrote each thrilling story, Kristin edited the prose and advised her mom on how to capture a teenage voice and include relevant pop culture references. While living and teaching in Tulsa, Oklahoma, P. C. gained the experience she would later use to build the setting of House of Night after her agent suggested the theme of a “vampire finishing school.”

Adding up all the novels, the House of Night series has spent a total of 63 weeks on the New York Times best seller list. The series has more than 10 million copies in print worldwide.
