Das gemiedene Haus (englischer Originaltitel: The Shunned House) ist der Titel einer Erzählung des amerikanischen Schriftstellers H. P. Lovecraft, die er Mitte Oktober 1924 verfasste. Im Oktober 1937 wurde sie in der Zeitschrift Weird Tales veröffentlicht und 1939 in den Sammelband The Outsider and Others aufgenommen, mit dem die Geschichte des Verlages Arkham House begann. Das Werk gehört zur Gattung phantastischer Horrorgeschichten mit Berührungspunkten zur Science-Fiction.

Gesammelte Werke (Band 1) ist eine Sammlung von Horrorerzählungen von H. P. Lovecraft. Der amerikanische Schriftsteller gilt als der bedeutendste Autor phantastischer Horrorliteratur des 20. Jahrhunderts und hat mit dem von ihm erfundenen Cthulhu-Mythos zahlreiche Nachfolger und Nachahmer beeinflusst. H. P. During a time of political and social unrest in Egypt, a god-like force, Nyarlathotep, emerges. He travels the land dazzling people with electricity and psychology. While witnesses of this god-like creature encourage others to see him, afterwards, people seem terrified. As the narrator recounts his experiences, he becomes disoriented. By the end of the story, the narrator and the other viewers of Nyarlathotep begin to lose touch with reality.
