Negli anni Novanta, i grandiosi progetti di colonizzazione interplanetaria sono stati dimenticati e Marte è ancora pressoché disabitato. Il lungo periodo di disinteresse ha favorito lo sviluppo di ogni sorta di traffici, dal contrabbando alla speculazione sulle aree che costeggiano la preistorica rete di canali, e la vita sul pianeta rosso è dura, come sempre è stata sulla Terra. L'avido Arnie Kott, il Membro Supremo del potente Sindacato degli Idraulici, è uno spietato affarista, determinato a sfruttare a proprio vantaggio ogni risorsa che il pianeta può ancora offrire.

"L'uomo dai denti tutti uguali" è un romanzo non di fantascienza. Scritto nel 1960, in uno dei migliori momenti creativi di Philip K. Dick, è stato scoperto solo nel 1984, quando è stato pubblicato per la prima volta in Gran Bretagna. Vi si narra la storia di una vendetta crudele e paradossale, ambientata nell'America falsamente innocente degli anni Cinquanta, mentre è in pieno sviluppo un grande cambiamento sociale, la popolazione inizia a spostarsi nei sobborghi urbani e la Guerra Fredda fa sentire il peso ossessivo delle sue nevrosi.

Due famiglie si incontrano nella California del dopoguerra. Roger e Virginia sono in crisi, lui è indeciso e instabile, lei una donna determinata e tirannica, mentre Chic e Liz Bonner sono molto diversi, un uomo d'affari convenzionale e all'antica e una donna sensuale e sognante. Entrambe sono coppie in bilico, vacillanti e insicure sul baratro di un mondo complesso che non lascia spazio e tempo per l'adattamento, per gli errori.

Dopo molti anni di assenza, Ted Barton decide di tornare a Millgate, la piccola citta' della Virgina dove e' nato. Un tranquillo borgo di provincia come ce ne sono a migliaia. Due negozi di ferramenta qualche emporio, un fabbro... Vi si reca in vacanza insieme alla moglie Peg, insofferente e spigolosa come tanti personaggi femminili di Philip K. Dick.

Cosa accadrebbe se si scoprisse che quanto si conosce del mondo non è altro che una menzogna? È la domanda alla base di questo futuristico romanzo, un thriller intenso, ironico e paranoico in cui Philip K. A cat walking across a room swerves suddenly and walks carefully around something we can't see. We shrug, smile, and remark that cats are always doing that. "The Eyes Have It" is a humorous, early short story by Philip K. Dick that first appeared in Science Fiction Stories in 1953. In it, a bus-riding reader of a discarded melodrama with an overactive imagination is persuaded by the hackneyed prose that the world has been taken over by aliens. Thus, when "eyes slowly roved around the room", the reader imagines disembodied eyeballs traveling of their own free will. A rare example of satire from the Dick canon.

In "Beyond the Door", a man buys a cuckoo clock for his wife who has always wanted one. When he catches her cheating on him, the man throws his wife out of the house with her lover. Though he never really cared for the clock, he keeps winding it because he dislikes the silence. But the cuckoo clock, who preferred the wife's company, begins to plot against its owner.

In The Defenders, the Soviet and American survivors of a nuclear holocaust have created vast underground tunnels, so as to continue the war on the surface via remote control robots. When a robot from the surface is found not to be radioactive, a team of American scientists returns topside to investigate this anomaly. Expecting to see massive devastation, the scientists are unprepared for the shocking truth that awaits them.

Ten-year old Tony Rossi, an Earthman growing up on Betelgeuse, becomes aware that the natives, known as the "Pas-Udeti", are driving out the Earthmen colonists on nearby Orion. His father, a staunch believer in the superiority of Earthmen, describes Tony's native friends as "Beetles". A trip into town to meet his native friends leads to awkward encounters with a Pas-Udeti cab driver and a fellow bus passenger.
