This poem describes a battle with a fearsome beast called The Jabberwocky and is considered to be one of the greatest nonsense poems written in the English language. The poem is included in Lewis Carroll's 1871 novel, Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There, the sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

The most mysterious of twists, turns, and amusing misfortunes occur in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and the sequel, Through the Looking Glass. In the first book, we are introduced to the origins of Alice's journey, as she encounters the elusive White Rabbit, the Caterpillar, the Queen of Hearts, and, of course, the guests of the Mad Tea Party.

When Alice steps through the looking-glass, she enters a very strange world of chess pieces and nursery rhyme characters such as Humpty Dumpty, Tweedledum and Tweedledee and the angry Red Queen. Nothing is what it seems and, in fact, through the looking-glass, everything is distorted.

The author of the famous Alice books also wrote many poems notably in the humorous and nonsense genres. "The Hunting of the Snark (An Agony in Eight Fits)", published in 1876 and possibly his best known and most accomplished verse, is presented here together with another of his longer poems, "Phantasmagoria" and "Melancholetta", "Sea Dirge", "Size and Tears", plus five poems from Alice.

Alice's Adventures Under Ground was the original story written by Lewis Carroll. He later revised the manuscript, which would become the famous Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

As he disappears down a rabbit hole and Alice, for want of anything better to do, follows him, a tale of almost hallucinogenic wildness unfolds as she finds herself in Wonderland.
