It's a well known fact that H.P. Lovecraft was a horribly racist man, and that some of his earliest stories reflect that particular worldview. This can make it awkward for those who would like to listen to his work and see what all the fuss is about but don't want to have to wade through the putrid swamp of his views on people of color and immigrants. In response to this issue, I have put together this collection of the H.P. Lovecraft short stories written between 1917 and 1923, but with the omission of the really racist ones.

"Polaris" ist der Titel einer frühen Kurzgeschichte H. P. Lovecrafts, die im Frühling oder Sommer 1918 geschrieben und im Dezember 1920 im Amateurmagazin "Philosopher" gedruckt wurde. Im Dezember 1937 wurde sie im Pulp-Magazin "Weird Tales" veröffentlicht und 1939 in den ersten Band des Verlags Arkham House aufgenommen. "Jenseits der Mauer des Schlafes" (englischer Originaltitel "Beyond the Wall of Sleep") ist eine Kurzgeschichte des amerikanischen Schriftstellers H. P. Lovecraft aus dem Jahr 1919. "Das Bild im Haus" (englischer Originaltitel: "The Picture in the House") ist der Titel einer Horrorgeschichte des amerikanischen Schriftstellers H. P. Lovecraft, die er am 12. Dezember 1920 verfasste. Nach einer Veröffentlichung in der Zeitschrift "The National Amateur" im Sommer 1921 erschien sie 1924 in "Weird Tales" und wurde 1939 in die Sammlung "The Outsider and Others" aufgenommen, mit der die Geschichte des Verlages Arkham House begann. In seiner Kurzgeschichte konfrontiert Lovecraft den Ich-Erzähler mit einem Fall von Kannibalismus.

"Dagon" ist eine Kurzgeschichte von H. P. Lovecraft aus dem Jahr 1917 und damit eines seiner ersten Werke als Erwachsener. This story takes place in the ancient valley of Nis, in vegetation-covered stone ruins described by Lovecraft in great detail. These crumbling blocks of monolithic stone now serve only for grey toads and snakes to nest under. Interspersed in the ruins are large trees that are home to little apes. Through the bottom of this valley runs the great, slimy red river called Than. "Memory" involves only two characters: "the Genie that haunts the moonbeams" and "the Daemon of the Valley".

"The Doom That Came to Sarnath" (1920) is a fantasy short story by American writer H. P. Lovecraft. It is written in a mythic/fantasy style and is associated with his Dream Cycle. It was first published in "The Scot", a Scottish amateur fiction magazine, in June 1920.

"The Descendant" is a story fragment by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft, believed to have been written in 1927. It was first published in the journal Leaves in 1938, after Lovecraft's death.

"The Colour Out of Space" is a science fiction/horror short story by American author H. P. Lovecraft, written in March 1927. In the tale, an unnamed narrator pieces together the story of an area known by the locals as the "blasted heath" in the hills west of the fictional town of Arkham, Massachusetts. The narrator discovers that many years ago a meteorite crashed there, poisoning every living being nearby; vegetation grows large but foul-tasting, animals are driven mad and deformed into grotesque shapes, and the people go insane or die one by one.

"The Cats of Ulthar" is a short story written by American fantasy author H. P. Lovecraft in June 1920. In the tale, an unnamed narrator relates the story of how a law forbidding the killing of cats came to be in a town called Ulthar. As the narrative goes, the city is home to an old couple who enjoy capturing and killing the townspeople's cats. When a caravan of wanderers passes through the city, the kitten of an orphan (Menes) traveling with the band disappears.

"Nyarlathotep" was written in the year 1920 by Howard Phillips Lovecraft. This book is one of the most popular novels of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, and has been translated into several other languages around the world.

"The Book" is an unfinished short story by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft, believed to have been written in late 1933. It was first published in the journal "Leaves" in 1938, after Lovecraft's death. In the story fragment, the narrator is given an ancient book by a strange bookseller, and when he takes it home and examines it, weird and sinister events ensue. In October 1933, Lovecraft wrote in a letter: I am at a sort of standstill in writing disgusted at much of my older work, and uncertain as to avenues of improvement.

"Ibid" is a parody by American horror fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft. Ibid is a mock biography of the Roman scholar Ibidus (486-587), whose masterpiece was Op. Cit., "wherein all the significant undercurrents of Graeco-Roman thought were crystallized once and for all." The piece traces the skull of Ibidus, once the possession of Charlemagne, William the Conqueror and other notables, to the United States, where it travels via Salem, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island to a prairie dog hole in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

"Herbert West - Reanimator" is a horror short story by American writer H. P. Lovecraft. It was written between October 1921 and June 1922. It was first serialized in February through July 1922 in the amateur publication "Home Brew".
