Bald ist Weihnachten! Max freut sich darauf, wie jedes Jahr Plätzchen zu backen, Geschenke zu basteln und den Tannenbaum auszusuchen. Doch dann müssen Mama und Papa plötzlich weg und Oma und Opa übernehmen für eine Woche das Kommando. Bald wird Max klar, dass der zertrümmerte Schlitten und das Plätzchenbacken mit der Bohrmaschine erst der Anfang einer besonderen Weihnachtszeit sind.

Max baut mit Pauline ein Piratenschiff, und zwar ein echtes! Das ist gar nicht so einfach. Zum Glück findet Max zwischen all dem Gerümpel in der Garage wertvolles Baumaterial für den Schrecken der Meere... "Ich bin schon bald vier!", ruft Max. Und wer so alt ist, der kann auch ein Kaninchen zum Geburtstag bekommen. Leider sind seine Eltern da ganz anderer Meinung. Aber Max weiß schon, wie er sie umstimmen kann. Doch er muss sich beeilen, sonst wird das süßeste schwarze Kaninchen der Welt an jemand anderen verkauft.

Hurra! Max fährt in den Ferien mit Mama und Papa, seiner Freundin Pauline und ihrer Mutter auf einen Bauernhof. Bald ist das Auto voll beladen und die Reise beginnt. Sie fahren Kanu, machen eine Radtour, übernachten im Zelt und viel zu schnell sind die Ferien auch schon wieder vorbei... Und dann erfahren wir, wie Max seine Taschenlampe bekam. Als Max nämlich einmal ganz dringend nachts Pipi muss, ist das Flurlicht, das nachts sonst immer an ist, aus! Es ist stockfinster im Flur. Und der Lichtschalter ist so weit weg. Max hat Angst.

Jungen ticken anders als Mädchen. Für ihre individuelle Entwicklung brauchen sie männliche Vorbilder, an denen sie sich orientieren können und die Alltagssituationen wie sie selbst erleben. Was für Mädchen CONNI ist, ist für Jungs nun MAX! Max ist sehr aktiv und sein Markenzeichen ist eine Taschenlampe, die er immer dabei hat. Eigentlich ist Max schon ganz vernünftig, aber er kann auch impulsiv und dickköpfig sein  -  ein echter Junge von nebenan eben!
