  • Escaping Christmas: Grief, Grace, and Finding Light in the Darkest Season
    Jun 19 2025

In this heartfelt episode, I sit down with Becky Avery—author of Escaping Christmas, blogger, full-time professional, and full-time wife—who is on a powerful mission to help others navigate grief. After losing her mother to a long battle with cancer and her father suddenly just 17 months later, Becky and her brother found themselves dreading the holidays and wondering: Can you skip Christmas? That question became the seed for her moving book, written and published just one year after her father's death.

We talk with Becky about three core themes from her book:

The reality that people grieve differently—and that’s okay.

How grief often divides families, and why she’s grateful that wasn’t her story.

The beauty of unexpected encouragement—like a simple “Are you okay?” text arriving at just the right time.

Becky also shares about her Advent blog series that creates space for grief during a season often filled with forced cheer, and we dive into the importance of normalizing conversations around death, including the need to talk openly about end-of-life plans with loved ones.

Whether you’re in the midst of loss or walking with someone through theirs, this conversation is an invitation to embrace grace, honor grief, and find meaning—even in the hardest seasons.

  • Love in Every Stripe: Finding God in the Brokenness with Shannon Debona
    Jun 17 2025

    Send us a text

In this powerful and heartfelt episode, I sit down with Shannon Debona—author of Love in Every Stripe Book, speaker, elementary teacher, and woman of deep faith. Shannon shares her journey of growing up in the church and walking with God her whole life, only to find herself in a spiritually dry season, wondering where God was in her pain.

Shannon opens up about the tragic loss of her husband to suicide, along with the passing of her cousin and grandmother—all within a single year. Through her grief, she discovered a deeper truth: God meets us in our brokenness, and the scars we carry are not signs of weakness but proof of His presence and healing.

She tells us how her book sat unfinished for 11 years, until God called her to pick it up again—this time completing it in just three days. Her testimony is one of obedience, healing, and the power of true discipleship. Together, we talk about what it means to be obedient to God's call, to live out the gospel, and to share His love through every stripe and scar.

This episode is a must-listen for anyone who’s ever felt lost, wondered where God is in the pain, or needed a reminder that their story—and their scars—matter.
