The Waterloo Podcast

By: Andrew Baillie
  • Summary

  • My name is Martin Aaron, I'm a lecturer at University College London. Since the year 2000 I’ve been building a database of the British army at Waterloo. By compiling original records from the Public Record office and regimental archives, I’ve gathered information about each of the 33,000 British combatants in 1815. This podcast series examines that data.

  • 16th Light Dragoons
    Nov 29 2024

Third and final part of this look at Vandeleur's brigade in 1815. The 16th Light Dragoons were an experienced regiment of Peninsula veterans. Later, after Waterloo, the regiment was converted to lancers and, after a royal scandal, banished to India for 25 years.

Erratum - I refer to the superb research of Janet and David Bromley and their work "Wellington's Men Remembered" but accidentally say "Bentley" rather than "Bromley". Early senility setting in - apologies!
