  • Conversations with Legends | Jay Leno
    Dec 13 2024

In this episode, I share a pivotal moment from 2011 that changed the course of my career. At 29 years old, still finding my footing as an entrepreneur, I was balancing a motorcycle parts business with my growing aspirations in the entertainment industry. Little did I know, the chance to connect the dots between motorsports and showbiz would come during Monterey Car Week—and it would come in the form of a legendary encounter with Jay Leno.

As I attended the prestigious Concorso Italiano unveiling, the buzz was all about Jay’s arrival. This wasn’t just any celebrity encounter for me; my uncle, Nick Sanborn, had been a beloved figure in the racing world, and Jay had once mentioned him on his talk show. I knew this could be my moment, and when I approached Jay, I never expected what would happen next. After a brief conversation about my uncle, Jay invited me to join him on set for an interview at Jay's Garage.

What followed was an unforgettable experience. I got to witness the magic of Jay's show firsthand, standing just inches away as he filmed a segment on a 1967 Lamborghini. It was a lesson in humility, passion, and what it means to be grounded in success. Years later, I even found myself as the subject of one of Jay's jokes at his comedy show—a humbling reminder of how far I’d come.

This encounter with Jay Leno taught me that opportunities often come when you least expect them. It wasn’t about forcing my way into the entertainment world—it was about being genuine, ready, and open to learning from those who have walked the path before you.

Listen now to hear the story of how a single, unexpected encounter with Jay Leno shaped my journey, and how you can apply the same lessons of humility, timing, and seizing opportunities in your own path—whether in entertainment, business, or life.

  • Conversations with Legends | Hypnogaja
    Dec 6 2024

In this episode, I take you on a journey through my relentless touring days, driving up and down California and Nevada, playing show after show in towns like Sacramento, Reno, and Lake Tahoe. It was a grueling life of endless travel, setting up gear, and performing on little sleep. But it was on one of those long drives when I stumbled upon something that would change my path forever—Hypnogaja.

While at Guitar Center in Sacramento, I picked up a CD by this unknown band. The first track, "Nothing Box," immediately hooked me. There was something magnetic about their sound—dark yet captivating. Over time, their music became the soundtrack to my travels, and I soon found myself connecting with the band. We booked shows together, and I watched their journey unfold from small venues to legendary stages.

Hypnogaja’s cover of Here Comes the Rain Again by the Eurythmics was the turning point. The track went viral, catapulting them into the spotlight. Their music was featured in TV shows, movies, and video games, and soon, they were touring with the likes of Seether. I felt immense pride in watching them achieve success because I had seen them struggle and work hard to get there.

Their rise is a testament to what hard work, perseverance, and staying true to your craft can do. Success isn’t always about talent alone—it’s about pushing through the tough times and never giving up. Hypnogaja went from living in a van to selling out shows and touring with rock legends, and their journey is a powerful reminder that persistence pays off.

If you’ve ever faced rejection or struggled to see progress, this episode is for you. It’s a story about never giving up, about finding success not through shortcuts but through grit and passion. Listen to the story of Hypnogaja’s rise, and let it inspire you to keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles.

Remember, just like Hypnogaja, your breakthrough could be just around the corner. Keep pushing, and success will follow.

  • Conversations with Legends | Joe Satriani
    Nov 29 2024

In this episode, I take you back to the summer of 1996, when I was just a 14-year-old skater in Monterey, dreaming of bigger things. One fateful encounter with two guys in their twenties would change everything and introduce me to the world of music that I now live and breathe. Among them was Gabe, a guitarist who ignited a fire within me the moment he picked up his Ibanez and started shredding.

That night, Gabe played me Joe Satriani’s G3: Live in Concert—a moment that set me on a path I never could have imagined. Satriani’s music resonated with me on a deep, personal level, and from that moment, I knew I wanted to play guitar and follow in his footsteps. What followed was a journey of obsession, practice, and growth as I worked tirelessly to master the instrument and bring my dreams to life.

But the road wasn’t always smooth. I faced challenges, grew up in a difficult home, and eventually came to realize that my path wouldn’t lead me to rock stardom as I had originally envisioned. However, my love for music never wavered. Instead, it led me to a fulfilling career in music production, and eventually, to a reunion with Joe Satriani—a moment that only deepened my admiration for him and his music.

Join me as I share the story of how a simple encounter with a guitarist on a summer day changed my life and led me down a path I never could have expected. This episode is a reminder that dreams evolve, and success isn’t always what we expect—it’s what we make of it.

If you’re someone who feels like your dreams have taken a different direction, don’t be discouraged. Keep playing, keep creating, and always believe in the music that’s inside you.
