    Professor Michael Berk is a NHMRC Senior Principal Research Fellow and is Alfred Deakin Chair of Psychiatry at Deakin University and Barwon Health. He is Past President of the International Society for Bipolar Disorders and heads major research initiatives including the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence for the Development of Innovative Therapies for Psychiatric Disorders (CREDIT) and the Mental Health Adult General Trial Network (MAGNET), Australia’s first mental health clinical trials network. He has published over 1400 papers and has received multiple awards including but not limited to the RANZCP Senior Research Award in 2021 and in 2024 the Australian Mental Health Prize. He is listed by Thompson Reuters as amongst the world’s most influential scientific minds.

    Dr Mark Horowitz is a training psychiatrist, split between UK and Australia, working in London as a Clinical Research Fellow in the NHS and an Honorary Clinical Research Fellow at University College London. He has completed a PhD in the neurobiology of depression and the pharmacology of antidepressants at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London and for this received two prizes from the British Association of Psychopharmacology. He is also the lead author of the recently published Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines, a handbook on how to safely stop psychiatric drugs.
