Musings of an Off-Duty Therapist

By: Kendree Bitter MAS-LAMFT
  • Summary

  • Hosted by Kendree Bitter, a couples, somatic, and ADHD therapist (@sync.therapy)

This podcast is my own personal musings about therapeutic topics! Therapy is described as a science and an art- relying on some neuroscience, physiology, and data, but it also is philosophical. To me, that's the most beautiful part of being a therapist! The data, combined with each clinician's spin on theories from those that came before us, eastern healing, spirituality, and personal history.

This show will feature some science, some theory, and some personal experience.

    Enjoy!

Psyche: An Ancient Origin Story ✨On this very special episode, recorded on a whim, I tell you the origin of the word "psyche", giving us the prefix for psychology, psychiatry, psychic and psychedelics- but don't worry- this isn't your typical boring Etymology lesson! The rich symbolism behind this field's name includes the breath of life, and the butterfly. Don't miss this exploration of the meaning of humanity 🐛🦋

  • Top-Down vs Bottom Up Approaches: 101

Top-Down vs Bottom Up Approaches: 101 In this episode, I go into some depth of what the Top-Down therapy approach looks like and what theories are involved, and then take you on the journey from doubt of to eventual transformation from the Bottom Up approach.

These terms are thrown around on the internet in brief, and this is the 101 course on them. Right now, on your IG feed, you probably see both approaches- my therapy account's FYP is definitely Bottom-Up focused, so I'm unsure if that's truly what's trending or if it's just on my feed- but it's unlikely you haven't been exposed to this approach in one way or another.

Make sure to go to the next part of this episode so you can see my integration of the bottom-up approach and how I blend it with two of my favorite top-down theories!
