  • E535 - Lynn Greenberg and Jonathan Greenberg - Robby the Dyslexic Taxi and the Airport Adventure, what makes you different is what makes you great
    May 7 2025

Episode 535 - Lynn Greenberg and Jonathan Greenberg - Robby the Dyslexic Taxi and the Airport Adventure, what makes you different is what makes you great

Robby the taxi has dyslexia, but he doesn’t let that stand in the way of doing a great job driving riders all around the city. Even though he can’t read the street signs, he has a wonderful memory and knows the streets by heart. One day, a regular customer asks him to go somewhere he’s never been… the airport! But Robby has solved problems like this before, and he finds his way to the airport using his unique outlook and creative skills.

This delightful tale was co-written by Lynn Greenberg and her son Jonathan, who also illustrated the book. Jonathan was born with dyslexia, and with the help of Lynn, learned to overcome his learning differences through creativity and art. By sharing Robby the Dyslexic Taxi with your little one, you’ll start them on their journey to learning how to solve their problems as well, whether they have dyslexia, ADHD, autism, or just need a boost in the direction of finding creative solutions for interesting, unexpected, and difficult problems.

    Jonathan Greenberg
    Author and Illustrator

Jonathan Greenberg was diagnosed with dyslexia as a young child. While he always knew that he learned differently than others, he did not let it personify who he was. Like most kids, Jonathan had a bookshelf full of books, however since he couldn’t read them at first, he became captivated with the artwork and illustrations of every one of them. Jonathan worked hard and overcame his disability, however, his love for art developed into his own passion.

Jonathan is currently a graduate student at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago so teaming up with his mother, an advocate for neurodiverse children, to co-author and illustrate a children’s book was a natural evolution.

Jonathan looks forward to continuing to create and illustrate stories with neurodiverse characters while also expanding his own artistic endeavors through other mediums.

    Lynn Greenberg
    Author

Lynn Greenberg has focused her life on being a champion for children. As a trained Attorney, Lynn spent her time in the legal world practicing family law, providing pro bono work for kids, and advocating on their behalf.

When her youngest son Jonathan was diagnosed with Dyslexia, becoming his advocate, as well as others, came easy. Understanding how to gather facts and create strategic plans, Lynn developed a road map to success for her son and has since become an active supporter of all neurodivergent children.

Writing a children’s book with Jonathan was simply the natural progression for Lynn. Robby the Dyslexic Taxi and the Airport Adventure was born out of Lynn’s desire for neurodivergent children to be able to see themselves in characters in a storyline. Lynn plans to continue creating stories relatable for all children.

Episode 534 - Peter Gribble - Welcome to the City of the Magicians - a looming crisis is about to reinvigorate Magic in all its wonders and dangers

Canadian Author, Peter Gribble has written for NUVO and other magazines in British Columbia.

For over ten years he wrote a monthly gardening column for a local Vancouver paper.

The City of the Magicians is his first published series.

I wondered how a pacifist, non-violent city-state could effectively prepare for a barbarian invasion while keeping their integrity intact. The City Council comes up with a decent solution plus a way of delivering it but as usual with good ideas they can hit unexpected snags.

Then there were the images hanging about in my head patiently waiting for me to write towards them. When they are ready (or I am) they pop onto the page as if readymade. It’s not writing; more like taking dictation. One of these images haunted me for years until it finally found its place in the third book of the series: In the midst of a fire, an unknown book’s flyleaf is blown smoking into your grasp. On it is a dedication inscribed to someone you know.

Episode 532 - Courtney Hennis - Mailbox Friends, The Loss of A Spouse, Grief and the Power of a Letter

    Hi everyone,

I’m a new author, and I’m excited to share my latest book, Breaking: Understanding the Loss of a Partner. This book is deeply personal—it reflects my journey as a widow and was written in the wake of my spouse’s passing. My hope is that it brings comfort and understanding to others navigating this profound loss.

I released my first book, The Healing Letter, in 2023, but it didn’t gain much traction. Still, I believe in the power of writing to heal, and I’m hopeful that Breaking will reach those who need it most.

If you or someone you know is struggling with loss, I’d love for you to check out my books:

  • E530 - Wendy A Horwitz - Author of Milkweed and Honey Cake - A Memoir in Ritual Moments
    Apr 25 2025

Episode 530 - Wendy A Horwitz - Author of Milkweed and Honey Cake - A Memoir in Ritual Moments

Raised in small-town Connecticut, educated in public schools, then Harvard and Temple Universities, I’ve had a mixed metaphor of a career. I’ve been a (happy) fish out of water: a doctoral student in psychology with an undergraduate history degree; a psychologist in pediatric medicine; a clinician among academic scholars; a social scientist working with English professors, engineers, and philosophers; a writer teaching medical students.

But I promised a mixed metaphor. My life is also an improvised, patchwork quilt of pieces gathered from sojourns in Costa Rica, Israel, Gambia, Provence, Ecuador, and the best, continuous journey of all--being a mom. Now, I teach writing workshops on Cape Cod and in Philadelphia. I’m a haphazard birder and a passionate observer of butterflies, unspoiled habitats, and turtles. Hiking, family, books, close friends, religious observance and secular ritual, music and dance: all lend my quilt color and sublime, if elusive patterns. And I’m still working on it, with clumsy stitches that depict me starting to learn the piano, and along the rough edge, a new design for my next book.

In Milkweed and Honey Cake: A Memoir in Ritual Moments, Wendy A. Horwitz shares stories about celebration, loss, change, and the best way to open a pomegranate.

Holidays delight – and disappoint. A couple marrying in the pandemic finds a surprise after a rainstorm, and a topsy-turvy search for a gravestone honors her ancestors. When a graduation is cancelled, Horwitz serves pomp and circumstance on the front porch, and through the shifting seasons of a life, amid the scramble of pet guinea pigs and birthday parties, her children add wonder and comedy to tradition.

With observations from nature, religion, and literature, Horwitz explores how ritual can exalt ordinary moments and frame the extraordinary. A blue heron, an old cupboard's scent, and the lingering feel of an engagement ring long gone prompt reflections laced with yearning and humor. Guiding us along a wooded path, to the kitchen table, in a messy garden, and under a tent reverberating with song, she traces the boundaries of ritual, considering what we do when ritual falls short, and how we might adapt each other's practices. And when the wider world seems broken, new rituals provide hope.

Lyrical and funny, thought-provoking and deeply moving, Milkweed and Honey Cake is at once a meditation on our desire for meaning and the story of a woman's lifelong efforts to create it
