  • Three Yards and a Cloud of Punt: College Football Playoff first-round reactions: Ohio State dominates Tennessee, but do we believe in the Buckeyes?
    Dec 22 2024

Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!

We made it through the first round of the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, but are we really better for it?

As John Buhler (Staff Writer, FanSided.com) and Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) used every last little bit of bandwidth to bring to The Starters a well-constructed playoff reaction show, the chalk prevailing nearly ended them.

None of the first-round games were close with home teams Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas and Ohio State all advancing in convincing fashion.

Hopefully, the guys' takes were spicier than the first-round games we saw.

False Start is coming in hot, unlike the increasingly frigid weather outside.

  • Episode 136: College Football Playoff first-round predictions: Ohio State and Notre Dame on upset alert?
    Dec 20 2024

Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!

    We have made it!

The first 12-team College Football Playoff commences on Friday night with No. 7 Notre Dame hosting No. 10 Indiana.

While every home team is favored this weekend, John Buhler (Staff Writer, FanSided.com) and Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) believe a few upsets could be had in the first-round of the playoff.

Although most people are looking towards No. 9 Tennessee potentially getting the best of No. 8 Ohio State, what about No. 10 Indiana upsetting No. 7 Notre Dame?

Even if the chances of No. 11 SMU defeating No. 6 Penn State or No. 12 Clemson getting the best of No. 5 Texas seem a bit slim, we have never seen first-round playoff games at a home team's stadium before.

False Start will be with you until the bitter end, so get ready for that!

    Dec 16 2024

Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!

The College Football Playoff starts now!

While John Buhler (Staff Writer, FanSided.com) and Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) will have more to unpack in the lead-up to this weekend's games, they decided to look at the quarterbacks first.

What quarterback rooms got the boys excited, and which ones are not worth writing home about?

Also, they took a look at a few high-end, incoming head coaches and tried to figure out who will have the most success in year one.

This obviously includes Bill Belichick taking over Cody's beloved North Carolina Tar Heels.

The weather outside may be weather, but at least you have got some False Start!

    Dec 12 2024

Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!

The coaching carousel has taken a turn.

In the wake of the regular season winding down, a slew of marquee college football jobs have been filled.

Bill Belichick takes over at North Carolina, while Rich Rodriguez returns to West Virginia. Also, it seems as though Dan Mullen will be getting back into coaching at UNLV.

John Buhler (Staff Writer, FanSided.com) and Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) reacted to some of the wildest coaching hires in recent memory.

The latest episode of False Start really went into the weeds when the guys handed out the often-celebrated Francis Xavier "Biff" Poggi Bronzed Meat Sleeves!

  • Episode 133: College Football Playoff field set!, Did the Selection Committee get it right?, Barry Odom to Purdue, Scott Frost returns to UCF?!
    Dec 9 2024

Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!

College Football Playoff teams are cheaper by the dozen, aren't they?

John Buhler (Staff Writer, FanSided.com) and Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) shared their thoughts on the College Football Playoff field being set.

While they power rank the 12 teams slightly differently on their chances of winning a national title, they see eye-to-eye on the handful of contenders, as well as the plethora of pretenders.

Meanwhile, the coaching carousel is starting to get out of hand!

Barry Odom is leaving UNLV to take over at ... Purdue, while Scott Frost is making his triumphant return to UCF after failing miserably at his alma mater of Nebraska!

The start of the playoff is less than two weeks away, but there was still plenty to talk about over on False Start on a Monday.

  • Three Yards and a Cloud of Punt: Conference Championship Weekend, 2024: Arizona State throttles Iowa State, Georgia beats Texas again, ACC and Big Ten Championships go down to the wire!
    Dec 8 2024

Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!

Conference Championship Weekend did not disappoint.

Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) flew solo like a cup with Three Yards and a Cloud of Punt over on False Start, while John Buhler (Staff Writer, FanSided.com) was probably out celebrating Georgia and Arizona State's big wins.

Yes, the Dawgs and the Devils are projected to get first-round byes after winning the SEC and Big 12 Championships.

However, the final two of the night leaves things up for discussion.

Is Oregon vulnerable? Can Penn State actually win a national title?

Is Clemson a dangerous playoff team now? Is SMU making the playoff?

Cody answered all of those questions and then some, while hoping and praying that Alabama does not end up taking SMU's spot.

Even if the Selection Committee lets you down, False Start never will!

  • Episode 132: Conference Championship Game Predictions, SMU walks the tightrope, Will Texas get revenge on Georgia in Dawgs' backyard?
    Dec 5 2024

Reach out to Cody and Buhler to tell them what's up!

It all comes down to this...

With it being conference championship weekend and all, we will know what teams will be playing in the first 12-team College Football Playoff, as well as which teams will be playing in ... other bowl games...

While teams like Georgia, Oregon, Penn State and Texas will be getting in no matter what happens in their conference championship games, other teams like Arizona State, Boise State, Clemson and Iowa State need to win to get into the playoff.

    And then, there is SMU...

The Mustangs will get in as the ACC Champion if they beat Clemson, but maybe there is still a chance they get in as a two-loss, ACC runner-up at-large team?

The other huge game of note is Georgia vs. Texas in a rematch from earlier in the season in the Dawgs' backyard of Atlanta.

John Buhler (Staff Writer, FanSided.com) and Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) brought their A games on the latest edition of False Start.

You are not going to want to miss out on this one!
