Episode 93: Whose Bus Is It Anyway? Trusting Your Gut Over Opinions

  • Summary

  • "Okay, so here’s a classic example of why you’ve got to trust your gut—even when everyone else thinks they know what’s best for you. A while back, I was torn about selling my bus. And when I say torn, I mean Torn with a capital 'T.' I loved that bus. It was like a part of me. But man, I needed the money.

And of course, all my friends were like, 'Noooo, you can’t sell the bus! It’s so you! It’s iconic!' Which is great and all, but here’s the thing: Not a single one of them was offering to chip in for gas, repairs, or, you know, my bills. They wanted me to keep it because it fit their idea of who I was—not because it made sense for me.

It was like the bus was this magical symbol of freedom… except for me, it had turned into a big ol’ stress machine. It wasn’t paying the bills, and it definitely wasn’t helping me sleep at night. So, I had to step back and ask myself, 'Am I keeping this thing for me, or because everyone else thinks I should?' Spoiler alert: the bus had to go.

And you know what? Once I made the decision, it felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders. It’s funny how that works, huh?

So, moral of the story: Your friends and family might have great intentions, but sometimes their advice is more about them than about you. Listen to your gut, because it usually knows what’s up—even when it’s scary to go against the crowd.

    Poll Question:
Have you ever made a decision that went against everyone else’s advice?
    A) Yes, and I’m so glad I did!
    B) No, but I wish I had.
    C) I always follow the crowd—safety in numbers, right?

    Inspirational Quote:
'Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.' – Steve Jobs
