  • Summary

  • Jesse James: Success can be measured by how well a gang is remembered, and even loved. Few are as famous, or as popular, as the ‘all American hero’ Jesse James. But is this adulation justified?

Short on detail, long on handwringing

Anything read by Michael Caine is a pleasure, and parts of this series are interesting and informative.

However, there is a strong moralising tone in parts, which does not fit with a history of gangs. It turns the work into prurient titillation, which is a shame.
