SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 298, “Would You Prefer Tickled Ears or the Truth?“ Kim discusses the temptation for humans to prefer to have their ears tickled by clergy than to hear the truth. If we hear truth then we are accountable for truth. We will see this temptation played out in the interaction in today’s scripture of King Ahab of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah. Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 22:6-9 with 8 as the focal verse: 8 The king of Israel replied to Jehoshaphat, “There is one more man who could consult the Lord for us, but I hate him. He never prophesies anything but trouble for me! His name is Micaiah son of Imlah.” Jehoshaphat replied, “That’s not the way a king should talk! Let’s hear what he has to say.” 3 For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires, 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
