    1 Samuel 1:1-20

After the age of the judges, which the miraculous birth of Samson represented, came the age of the prophets and kings. Here we meet Hannah, a woman full of grief because she cannot bear children who would later become miraculously pregnant. And her child Samuel becomes the prophet who will anoint the first kings of Israel. With the miraculous birth of Samuel the whole line of the great Hebrew prophets came into being — culminating in Jesus, the Prophet, Priest, King.

The miraculous birth of Samson points to the miraculous birth of Jesus in that both were special deliverers given by God to save His people from their enemies. The greatest enemies that we face (Satan, sin, and death) have been defeated and destroyed through Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection. Through faith in Christ, we are delivered from these enemies, resulting in great peace, hope, and joy.

Although Samsons birth and ministry were miraculous he ultimately fell short of the calling placed upon his life. Exodus 2:1-10

Moses and Jesus’ stories contain some fascinating parallels. Shortly after their births, God delivers both of them from evil kings seeking to kill them. As adults, God uses Moses to free God’s people from slavery to Egypt, where Jesus frees God’s people from slavery to sin. Throughout these comparisons we discover that God is a rescuing God who both protects His people and delivers them to live in freedom from sin.
