The New York Rangers are reportedly considering trading two of their key players, Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Rangers have made it clear they're interested in making moves and shaking up their roster, with Trouba and Kreider's names being mentioned as potential options.
Trouba, the Rangers' captain, has responded to the trade rumors, saying he's happy to be in New York and focused on playing hockey. He also mentioned that he hasn't talked to Rangers GM Chris Drury since the rumors surfaced.
The potential trade of Trouba and Kreider could be motivated by the Rangers' desire to clear cap space to sign goalie Igor Shesterkin, who is a priority for the team ¹. Trouba has a $8 million cap hit for this and next season, while Kreider has two years left on his contract at $6.5 million per year.
Possible trade destinations for Trouba and Kreider could include the Detroit Red Wings, who were previously interested in Trouba, or the Philadelphia Flyers, who might be willing to make a deal despite being a divisional rival.
