About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
'A life with a disability is most certainly a life worth living and I wouldn't change who I am for all the Louboutin's in the world. I write this for anyone who is seen to be "different". We all have much more in common than we think, no matter who we are.'
Growing up with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Sam felt restricted by the labels other people put on to her. After a spinal fusion operation, which almost left her paralysed in her early twenties, she decided to quit her job and move from Lancashire where she'd grown up, to London to start the life she'd always envisioned for herself.
In You Are the Best Thing Since Sliced Bread, Sam shares how she went from a young girl who was constantly underestimated to succeeding in becoming a strong independent woman who followed her dreams and stopped letting other people hold her back.
Frank, heartfelt, inspirational and funny, Sam shares the lessons she has learned, which we can all use in our own lives to have confidence in ourselves, dare to dream and go after what we want in life.
©2022 Samantha Renke (P)2022 Penguin AudioI am disabled myself and found parts of this really resonate with me and made feel that I am not alone in some of my feelings.
It’s definitely not just a book for disabled people and I believe that anyone who reads it will take something away with them. I can recommend this enough and feel it’s a must read. It’s also available in audio book format which is read by Samantha and the format I choose and it’s truly fantastic.
Thank you for writing this and it’s been fantastic to get to know you that much more!
Truly wonderful book. I cannot recommend it enough

The author narrates the book which I think makes the story have even more impact. As I listened I felt I was sitting in a cafe having a coffee with Samantha as she told me stories of her life. The stories are a testimony to valuing who you are even if you live in a society that doesn’t value you. But Samantha also connected with me as woman. We have different lives and worldviews but are connected by how we trap ourselves in thoughts about ourselves. She highlights how hard it can be to navigate dating and being objectified . I could resonate with this. She recounts the loss of her father tragically when she was 9 years old and how that spurred her on to live every minute and value how short life can be. She talks of imposter syndrome , which I feel resonates with so many when we are given opportunities and the inner voice tells us we are not worthy. This is a ‘page turner’ of a book. Samantha shows that loving who you are, even in a society that tried to tell you not to, you can accomplish a life beyond your dreams.
