About this listen

"Things like crowns had a troublesome effect on clever folks; it was best to leave all the reigning to the kind of people whose eyebrows met in the middle."

Three witches gathered on a lonely heath. A king has been cruelly murdered, his throne usurped by his ambitious cousin. A child heir and the crown of the kingdom are both missing. The omens are not auspicious for the new incumbent, for whom ascending this tainted throne is a more complicated affair than you might imagine - particularly when the blood on your hands just won't wash off, and you're facing a future with knives in it.

Critic reviews

"One of the pleasures of the book is the way in which literary classics float effortlessly through them in a way that would be pounced on as inter-textual in another author but is never allowed to become strident or alienating in Pratchett's work." (Guardian)

My go to escapism

One of my favourite TP books, witty, non stop laughs, wonderful characters and always leaves me feeling happier for having listened to it. Really wish Audible would re record the unabridged version of the story which suffers from bad audio and poor narration. Highly recommend the abridged version.

Comedy genius

Where does Wyrd Sisters rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Wyrd Sisters is excellent listening, as good as anything else I have had form Audible. Tony Robinson has just the right quirky narrative style - although I did enjoy his rendition of the Tiffany Aching stories more, because his voices for the Wee Free Men are perfect.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Wyrd Sisters?

Wyrd Sisters is the first of the 'Witches' Discworld books from Terry Pratchett, and as good a place as any to start listening if you have been living on a desert Island for the past 30 years and have never encountered his books before.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Its impossible to pick out just one scene for praise, because every scene has a gem of wit.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I always listen to audiobooks in the car, and this one made me want to keep on driving!

Fab but abridged!

Brilliant story, as you’d expect, and hilariously narrated, but sadly heavily abridged. Such a shame, as you lose such a lot of marvellous detail.

Be very careful where you read T P's books

I cannot imagine anyone else narrating these adventures other than Tony Robinson. He brings Terry Pratchett's characters alive like no other. Beware where you listen to them as you may get some very strange looks from those around when you cannot contain the laughter.

Abridged but fabulous

I love the voices Tony Robinson does and the story itself was fabulous. Wish he’d read the full version too

NOT UNABRIDGED

This is not a good version of this book.
The original book is superbly written and darkly satirical. This massively edited version cuts out lots of the funny details and many key plot elements.
Tony Robinson is a usually brilliant actor and writer yet he mispronounces a lot of names and the voices he uses are just annoying.

Terrible audio

The narration voice is much quieter than the dialogue, leading to a strained and painful listening experience. This abridged version cuts out all terry pratchett' signature humour.

Missing entire plotlines. why?

Why cut out entire sections of the original book? yes it s OK without it but I cannot see the upside. also I generally like Tony Robinson but in this book he shouts way too much. i had to keep adjusting the volume.
